[00:01:14] Speaker C: Welcome back to another episode of Rock Roulette Podcast. That's right, the crazy ass podcast that took over 1, 800 albums, stuck them in a list, stuck them in a wheel. Every other week we spin the wheel. She picks a record for us and we talk about it. We talk about the music, the lyrics, the production, the melody and the arrangement and we give it scores. Just a bunch of friends who love music want to do a podcast. Everybody who takes this trip with us, a discovery and rediscovery. We really want to thank you. Keep those numbers consistent. [00:01:52] Speaker C: And I'm sad. Ciao buena.
Last week was our 200th episode. Mark, you said whatever. The wheel picks, picks. And I kind of gave her the two ends of the spectrum. I said something really big or something. I'm like, what the hell is this? And she gave me what the hell is this? And that was Rock City Machine company, which is actually part of the band that was with Gene Simmons and then with Ace Frehley. We saw a couple of the guys play with Ace Frehley. I was expecting. I don't know what I was expecting. Like definitely rock. Maybe something a little bit more classic, 70 ish. Sounding. The vibe that I'm getting is more of Tommy Thayer, Kiss Monster, Sonic Boom. That last song definitely had some Van Halen vibes. I think they're wearing these influences on the sleeve and we said it's very safe. I felt it was very generic and harmless. I don't know what their personality is outside of those bands, but I'm waiting for something like, okay, cool. Like this is it. What's. What was your Old take on the first side.
[00:02:48] Speaker D: I think Jeremy Asbrock did a great job on his solos. I think Ryan Spencer Cook can play great and sing great. And Phil shouts. I think he played bass really well. I don't think you could complain about the musicianship at all. It is very safe. There's not a lot of. I don't know, I should say passion. Doesn't seem to be a lot of fire in it. It just seems it's there. I can't explain what the songs are besides that. They're not badly played or badly sang or arranged horribly. They're just there and they sound like they're influences. There's some Kiss sounding stuff. There's some non Kiss sounding stuff. I think there's a little 70s sounding in there, especially on the guitar stone and on a little bit of the riffs. I think it's 70s. I don't think it's really 80s hair metal.
[00:03:26] Speaker C: Now that last song we said had a little bit of that early 80s vibe.
[00:03:29] Speaker D: Yeah. I think it's exactly what you would expect from them.
[00:03:32] Speaker C: I'm curious to see what the second side, if it just kind of continues. It's short, if nothing else, that's for sure. Before we get to that second side, we have our new Bets in the Baby wheel.

[00:04:14] Speaker D: I think this is a new band. This is 2025. I think it's hair metal. Yeah, I think you're going to like this.
[00:04:19] Speaker C: Yeah, I'd love to hear some hair metal I like.
[00:04:21] Speaker D: Yeah. Especially new. Either it could be really super cheesy or it could be good. Who knows? All right, this is wanted. Cutting Ed.

[00:08:08] Speaker C: It's definitely hair metal heavy. I like the music. I wasn't sure about the vocals. And it felt that during the verses, he wasn't keeping up with the music. It's not bad. I'm trying to think of who. It's like dakony and, like, ratty kind of.
[00:08:23] Speaker D: I don't even know if it's either of those two.
[00:08:25] Speaker C: There's something there. I couldn't pinpoint it, though. Trying to think. I was like, is that what I'm thinking of?
[00:08:29] Speaker D: The drums are very painkiller, Judas Priest, a lot of double bass all over the place. I'd have to say. My criticism with that is the same. I would say is most late 80s hair metal is just same very generic thing. There's nothing that really stands out. The singer could be any number of singers. He's following the pattern of what that music was then. But maybe not in the best way. It just feels very. I don't know. It's not played bad. It's not sung bad. It's all played very well. To me. It just feels like it's copying something.
[00:09:01] Speaker C: Yeah, it's nostalgic. This is the kind of thing where you listen to it and you either say, well, I've heard it before. You say to stuff, okay, well, you know, people still carrying the flag. I guess they're from Michigan. I'm not sure if he's from. Because I thought he heard an accent when he was singing. His name is Sterling Primo. I don't know if that's his real name or not.
[00:09:17] Speaker D: I don't know. And I felt that he was really pulled back in the whole song. Like he wasn't really upfront. He was mixed way low for what he was gonna do. I think you can hear a little bit. A lot of bands there. Even that beginning riff sounds a little bit like Motley Crue. And then it changed.
And then it changed. I was like, oh, okay. At least they changed it up a little bit. So give them credit for that. Not trying to use that riff all the way through. I didn't hate it. [00:11:26] Speaker C: This one had a little bit more of a. Not the chorus so much, but the verse reminded me a little bit of acdc. I was trying to think that's what it sounded like to me. Safe.
Yeah, it's rock. Is there anything to me that's standing out? No. Is it bad? No.
[00:11:40] Speaker D: I hear the AC DC thing there. It's not like a rip, though.
[00:11:44] Speaker C: No, it's a vibe.
[00:11:46] Speaker D: Again, very safe. If you wanted to have just a generic rock album on, this is not a bad record to put on. You're gonna probably like most of the stuff.
[00:11:53] Speaker C: It's almost soundtracky. It doesn't sound 80s album. When you think about where metal was used in soundtracks, you think of 80s. This would be the intro. This is as the opening credits are kind of playing.
They're going through LA and they're telling you who's in the movie. That's what this reminds me of.
[00:12:12] Speaker D: See, I feel it's very late 70s, like coming of age movie.
[00:12:16] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:12:17] Speaker D: Or like maybe 1980, like right there. I don't get a lot of mid 80s or 83ish feeling. I feel like 79, 80, 81. That type of.
Which again, would make a lot of sense from where their influences seem to be. All right, let's continue. Here we go.
[00:12:36] Speaker A: You'll run from your shadow, Slide up your wishing well you take no prisoners, you spare no lives Dead man don't tell no tales, you, facts against the wall on the wrong side of a gun what you gonn, what you gonna do? We're so about you, so about you what you gonna do?

[00:13:49] Speaker C: The first solo in the first song I thought was a good six or eight bars. And since then they've all gotten so short. Right. It's not just me.
[00:13:57] Speaker D: No. He's serving the song. It's four bar solo.
[00:14:00] Speaker C: I felt like it was too.
[00:14:01] Speaker D: Too. Maybe I wasn't really counting it. I don't think it's that short, but it's short. He is not taking his influences and making like it's him. He mushes them all around, which I appreciate. You can hear things that, you know, are familiar, but they're not exactly a cop. Like, he's not copying Ace Frelli or Van Halen. If those are his two things. He's not really copying them. He's just using that as basis for his stuff, which I appreciate. I think I like that better. And trying to be a total copycat of someone else, even though he does that very well. Not a copycat, but when he did Ace Fraley stuff and when he just kissed up, he plays it fairly close to what it here. I think he just takes his influences and mix them up and it comes out. And I do appreciate his solos in this song and in the other songs, too.
[00:14:40] Speaker C: These guys are not part of anything Bruce Kulik does, are they?
[00:14:44] Speaker D: No.
[00:14:44] Speaker C: Okay. That's all his own. Whatever he brings on board.
[00:14:48] Speaker D: Yeah. That's other people. It's not these guys at all. I think there was a little playing every once in a while. I've seen them together, but very few, very little, if I remember correctly.
[00:14:56] Speaker C: Yeah. I just wasn't sure if they had anything to do with some of that stuff that you had shown me.
[00:15:00] Speaker D: All righty, let's continue.
[00:15:05] Speaker A: What you gonna do?

You grab a tmz, take control like a dynamite. You're a crash on what you do when trouble finds you, you better run.
[00:15:33] Speaker C: Listen, if nothing else, these songs are definitely quick.
[00:15:36] Speaker D: Oh, yeah.
[00:15:36] Speaker C: There is no padding to these songs. They are in and out.
[00:15:39] Speaker D: I do like their endings a lot.
[00:15:41] Speaker C: They do well in the endings. I agree with that.
[00:15:43] Speaker D: All right, I'll go again. I'm gonna. This is the same score I've been given. Everything. Five lyrics, five melody, six music, five arrangement, six production. It's what it is. Nothing has really stood out over the other ones. They're all pretty much samey same. Not that they're the same song, but they seem to have the same energy level through the whole thing. There's not a lot of valleys and peaks, and it's of kind one monotone tempo and sound all the way through. Saf.
[00:16:03] Speaker C: I agree. I'm doing the same. Six arrangements and five. And everything else. Nothing bad, but nothing standing up. I don't know that I'd be able to tell these songs apart if I go back and listen to them again.
[00:16:14] Speaker D: And they're not even bad songs. That's the worst part about it. They're not bad. It's just there, very little excitement. It's just very flat. All right. This is the last time.
[00:16:31] Speaker A: Every time I see a girl I fall apart oh, no new beginnings I don't want a brand new star no, It's a forever And I'm not gonna ask you to stay.

[00:17:27] Speaker C: This also has that early 80s Hermetal Le Vibe, I think, thing. I like that thing he's doing in the chorus. I'm not crazy about the melody so much, but I like the guitar thing that's going on in the chorus.
[00:17:37] Speaker D: It's the same tempo, though, all the way through. That's what I think the issue is.
[00:17:40] Speaker C: Yeah. That is another thing.
[00:17:41] Speaker D: They don't vary tempo very much.
[00:17:44] Speaker C: It's like mid tempo kind of.
[00:17:47] Speaker D: Yeah, it's very mid tempo.
Through the whole thing. Beginning. It sounded a little like Kiss.
[00:17:53] Speaker C: Absolutely.
[00:17:56] Speaker D: Yeah. All right, let's continue. Here we go.
[00:17:59] Speaker A: Caught in the crossfire There ain't going to be a hipster.

This ain't forever and I'm not going to ask you to stay.
You really got me When I saw you with them drop dead legs oh, you know I can't wait to see you.

[00:19:15] Speaker C: Solo is my favorite part. I like his solos. They fit well. Nothing fancy. They're very neat. That was definitely my favorite part.
[00:19:23] Speaker D: Yeah, I thought the soul was great. I think he's doing a great job. I'm not saying, oh, he sounds like this guy who. He sounds like that guy. Except for the first song is the only time. And after that, I feel he's been himself.
I think it's been great. And that part that you hear in the chorus, that's very similar to Summer Song. He did that same kind of high stuff while the chords were going on. I don't think it's bad.
[00:19:42] Speaker C: No, I like that part.
[00:19:43] Speaker D: Yeah. All right, let's finish it up.
[00:19:54] Speaker A: For the last time the last time I can't wait to see you
[00:20:01] Speaker B: Just
[00:20:02] Speaker A: say love and we don't have to pretend no, no, I can't wait to see for the last time, the last time.
[00:20:28] Speaker C: No fade outs. That's the other thing, too. I don't think we've had a single fade out. Or am I wrong?
[00:20:33] Speaker D: No, no fade Outs that I can remember. They don't like me. I like a fade out here, there. I want you go first.
[00:20:38] Speaker C: Same sex arrangement five and everything else. I don't know what else to say. I feel badly. I don't think the songs are bad. We've said that a million times already. I think we're trying to defend it. It's just the fact that there's nothing there to stand out. What do you think?
[00:20:53] Speaker D: I wish there was some tempo change between the songs. That's the only thing. I'm going to do my same thing. You're giving the six on arrangement. I'm giving it on production and musicianship because I do like the ends, and I think that's a good production choice. They make the ends the way they are. That first song had that little bit of digital clipping, and that's passed. I think the songs have been okay. I really wish there was a tempo change up because it's getting a tad bit samey same.
And again, I feel bad, too, because I really seem to like these guys. When I've seen podcasts with them, they've been really good guys. Cool guys. Down to earth. Their fans, like we're fans. It's how you would wish. People who play music are. They're the same as you, except they're fans of the same bands you're fans of, and they just happen to be playing with those guys. So they know that it's a special thing that they're doing, too. If you're a Kiss fan or a YouTube fan or whatever, and you ended up playing with the band or people in the band that you grew up on, that's got to be a great thing.
[00:21:41] Speaker C: And maybe that's what this is. Maybe this is like a little tribute kind of thing.
[00:21:45] Speaker D: An homage.
[00:21:46] Speaker C: Yeah. Nothing. There's like, listen, we're not doing anything fancy. Nothing, whatever. Just could do rock and roll songs. You'll hear some of this influence, some of that influence and.
[00:21:55] Speaker D: All right, here's the next one. This is High Road.
[00:22:23] Speaker A: I don't like Christmas still see you sitting by that tree don't want to talk about new year can't be together on it even don't start on my birthday Just read let it pass me by Just like being alone on the 4th of July with those rockets across the sky Come on, light em up another fly I'm not crying cause y' all gone Singing the same old song More than livid up since you gave me up and saved the high road I'm now barking at the Moon singing the same old tune since he gave me up more. Live it up, take the high road no church on Sunday isn't me.
[00:23:25] Speaker C: Are these lyrics a little bit odd?
I think the chorus could be my favorite because it has the most feel to it and maybe overall. But the words are weird even now, the way the first thing he went into.
[00:23:38] Speaker D: I do like that there's a change in tempo finally. Yeah, this is one of my favorite songs so far. I think maybe I just need to change. Any kind of change at this point is going to give a little more points. I think. I like this guitar playing at the beginning. I thought that was great too. Solo stuff was good. I want to keep an eye on the lyrics. Here we go.

[00:25:23] Speaker C: Another solid solo plays for the song. He plays with feel. I've liked every single solo. Nothing fancy like, oh, my God. But I've liked every single one and definitely my favorite part of each song.
[00:25:34] Speaker D: Yeah, I think everything's been good. It's not like Steve Stevens. No, it's totally on the opposite side of that. Steve Stevens. You went, holy.
He's a great guitar player. Not that he's not a good guitar player. It's just he probably. Probably wouldn't put himself in the same category as that either. He's just very solid what he does. All the solos are good. I have no complaints.

[00:25:52] Speaker D: I think his tone is good too.
[00:25:53] Speaker C: Yep, I like his tone.
[00:25:55] Speaker D: Sometimes the tone can be shrilly and his is not truly at all.
[00:25:57] Speaker C: No, I like the tone. It has soul. It has feel. I like that.
[00:26:00] Speaker D: It's warm.
[00:26:01] Speaker C: Warm. Yep. It's got warmth, which I love.
[00:26:03] Speaker D: It's doing good. Here we go.
[00:26:17] Speaker A: Barking at the moon Singing the same old tune. Yeah, you gave me up I'm gonna live it up L it up yeah, I'm not crying cause you're gone Singing the same old song you gave me up won't live it up Take the high road I'm not licking the seal of food Ye you gave Me up.
[00:27:03] Speaker C: That's interesting ending. That song could have used a fade out. I could have seen a fade out to that one.
[00:27:08] Speaker D: And you know what? I wish they would have used that tone somewhere in the song. Except on the fade out part. I think that would have been pretty cool to change it up somewhere where the clean parts were. Maybe use that. Anything is a change at this point is good for me.
I'll go first. I'm gonna give it sixes across. I think so far this is my favorite song. Just because the tempo change and I like his guitar playing here. I just think overall it's a little bit better of a song because it gets out of the mold, I think of what the other ones are.
[00:27:34] Speaker C: I may have to go back to listen to the lyrics, but I would say a four on the lyrics and six on everything else. This probably is my favorite so far. Definitely different tempo. It shows slightly more personality, I think, than anything else before it.
[00:27:46] Speaker D: Who knows?
[00:27:46] Speaker C: Maybe the lyrics are. Were kind of a goof. I heard him licking a spoon and something else. Maybe I'm hearing it and taking them seriously. But maybe it was meant to be that way. But yeah, probably the best one so far.
[00:27:57] Speaker D: I think it has the most personality.
[00:27:59] Speaker C: Agreed.
[00:28:00] Speaker D: We're at the end. It's very fast, man. Yeah. This is fallen in love.
[00:28:13] Speaker A: Sam.
But went down too hard forever mine feeling gunshot I been doing time you're the rocket oh, yeah still like it being a bucket heart needs a long in a four, four time you can't help it, can't help it it's one and it's done but it's fun I should find when you young and you d.
[00:29:25] Speaker C: Not bad. Definitely a faster tempo. Again, a little generic to me.
[00:29:29] Speaker D: I think it has a little more personality, though. I think there's a little more energy. It's not as safe. I just think it's a little bit better than the other stuff.
[00:29:36] Speaker C: It's definitely faster.
I do agree there is more energy to this one.
[00:29:41] Speaker D: Having six other songs with that same, similar tempo. I got a little bit slower one now. This is a little faster. At least it gives you a little bit. Okay, so it's not the same as all the other one. I'm not hating this at all. Guitar playing again is good. His vocals sound great. We haven't talked a lot about bass, but I think the bass playing has been solid.
[00:29:55] Speaker C: It has been. Yeah. I've heard some good bass stuff in there.
[00:29:58] Speaker D: And the drums have been good. Really?
[00:29:59] Speaker C: Yeah, they're solid. Solid drums.
[00:30:01] Speaker D: All righty. Let's Continue. Let me go.

[00:31:21] Speaker C: What do you think of that? That was a little bit different.
[00:31:23] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:31:23] Speaker D: The harmonized guitar. I wish it would have went into something different at the end. I thought that would have been cool. I don't think it's as good as some of the other stuff that's on there. But it was different too. I think I was just expecting something to change up maybe halfway like that, and then change it somewhere else. I don't know. All right, we're almost at the end. Here we go. Let's finish it.
[00:31:45] Speaker A: Honestly. Falling in love when you're young and you're done which ways to cross which one to burn Hard on.
[00:32:06] Speaker C: I wasn't expecting 10 there.
[00:32:08] Speaker D: No, me either. I didn't know what was going on.
[00:32:10] Speaker C: That was a bit of an abrupt ending. I'll tell you what I was expecting, though. The chorus to just be sung over the drum beat. And they didn't do that.
[00:32:17] Speaker D: I don't know. I mean, I want to give it a little bit better score because I like the tempo change, but I don't know. Why don't you go first?
[00:32:22] Speaker C: I'm going back to my other scores. Six on arrangement, five and everything else. Might be stretching it a bit for the lyrics to give it a five. I don't know if it's a four. Well, two things. One, it doesn't sound like an ending song to me. I don't feel like that song is to end the record. I could be wrong. The other thing too is a little bit safe like everything else, but you want to give it.
[00:32:40] Speaker D: Maybe they should have flopped the last two songs. Maybe.
[00:32:42] Speaker C: Yeah. That could have been slightly better.
[00:32:43] Speaker D: I'm gonna do five lyrics, five melodies, six music. I'm gonna do six on arrangement and six on production. Just because I'd like that the tempo changed. I felt like had a little bit more energy just because the change of tempo a little bit faster. This was an interesting listen. Just because I didn't know what I was expecting. I had expectation of a lot more Kiss sounding and I didn't really get as much of that, which I appreciate. I like that they dipped into a couple of other bands here and there. Again, very safe. Nothing was played badly. If you just want a record to put on the background and then not really listen, just have like a thing to listen to while you're doing other things. I think this is a good record for that. It's not going to distract you because it's just very safe.
Yeah, I don't know if that's good or bad.
[00:33:24] Speaker C: It's nice and vanilla.
[00:33:26] Speaker D: That was an interesting 200 to a 1 there.
[00:33:30] Speaker C: Something that I didn't know existed, which is always fun. I'm still looking for that record that we haven't heard from a band we know. I don't know if that's fully materialized yet.
[00:33:42] Speaker D: I don't know either. Maybe eventually. Alrighty. Why don't you do your thing?
