[00:01:14] Speaker C: Hey everybody, welcome back to another episode of Rock Roulette Podcast. That's right, the crazy ass podcast that took over 1,700 albums, stuck them in a list, stuck him in a wheel. Every other week we spin the wheel. She picks a record for us and we go through it track by track and we talk about the music, the lyrics, the the production, the melody and the arrangement. Just a bunch of friends who love music want to do a podcast, and everyone who takes this trip with us of rediscovery and discovery. We really want to thank you. Spread the word, man. The numbers, they're pretty consistent. So keep them consistent and reach out to us. Tell us what you like, what you don't like, Maybe something you'd want to hear, something we can change, something we can do better. We are all ears. And speaking of all ears, we have three sets of ears tonight. We got Frank. [00:01:55] Speaker A: My name is Frank. And I'm sexy. [00:02:10] Speaker D: Hello everybody. [00:02:12] Speaker C: We have Mark. Oh, hi Mark. [00:02:14] Speaker B: What's up guys? [00:02:15] Speaker C: And I'm sad. Ciao, Buena sira. Last week we wrapped up the second album by the Allman Brothers out of Wild South. Overall, pretty consistent. I think we were all expecting it to be pretty good. And it was pretty good. Obviously. Musicianship was good, Vocals are great. No complaints. Just something I think we'd go back to. Without a doubt. I think It's a good 70s big ass headphones with the big chord that goes to the record player and you're sitting in your bed like a scene from a movie. Mark, you definitely dug it. [00:02:44] Speaker B: Yeah, it was great. Guitars were great, vocals were great, bass playing was great. Everything was good. [00:02:48] Speaker C: Frank, you dug it too. [00:02:49] Speaker D: Yeah, well unlike you too. I thought this was going to suck. I was actually dreading it. Geez, I have to sit through this now. Going to hate every minute of it. But honestly, very surprised that I end up liking it as much as I do. It's definitely something Something that I want to listen to after we're wrapping up. Actually, it will go perfect. Like a night like tonight, Snowing out in the greater New York metropolitan area. That kind of vibe, like you said, laying in your bed with your headset on, Record player playing, just chilling, watching the snowfall kind of album. [00:03:18] Speaker C: Yeah, this is definitely an album to have on vinyl. They could pick up that feel. We get to spin the wheel tonight again, which is always awesome. But before we spin the mama wheel, we get to spin the baby wheel in the new bet section. [00:03:29] Speaker A: In a world where new music is not easy to find. Welcome to new bets. [00:03:47] Speaker B: Okay, here's the new bets wheel. [00:04:03] Speaker C: Tim Montana Savage. I don't know where you find them, Mark. I'm ready for some discovery here. I've never heard of this person. [00:04:09] Speaker B: All right, let's do this. This is Tim Montana Savage. [00:04:24] Speaker A: But it still ain't hit me yet maybe I'm just scared to death Trying to drive right past the sign can't pretend that my blood ain't cold there's no fire but I smell smoke Nothing like a heartbeat Build it up inside me Ain't no way to fight these animals now in the damage we gotta have it we want it all limited towers chasing the power like animals Everything can go to hell we can keep it for ourselves Be in the habit Watching the madness Everything is savage. When everything said and done Sunsets I'm the only one Burning like a snake Riding from the inside Falling from a black sky Watching where the world dies yeah when the k is we got to have it we want it all on mining tower Tasting the power Everything can go to hell we can keep it for ourselves Be heaven watching the madness Everything is savage. Sa. Now when the gimmicks we gotta have it we want it all Living in towers Chasing the power against love Everything can go to hell we can keep it for ourselves Feeding the heaven watching the madness Everything is savage. Everything is savage. [00:07:23] Speaker C: Not too bad. I like the melody. I don't like the production. God, I know I keep saying that, but the production undermines some of the heaviness of it. Mark, what'd you think? [00:07:34] Speaker B: It's like glossy, heavy. It wants to be heavy, but it's not. And the drums are so far back. Doesn't feel like they're right in your face. I just think this is very modern rock. You know what reminds me of of stuff I don't like, which is daughtery. It's very daughtry, which I do not like at all. And this is what it reminds Me of. I think he can sing. I think there's a good melody there. But you're right, production is just very glossy and it kills the heaviness of it. No guitar solo. It doesn't do anything for me. [00:07:59] Speaker C: Frank, what'd you think? [00:08:00] Speaker D: Same. Very daughtry, actually. It's like between a daughtery and a bush sound to me. I don't hate it. Not crazy about it. [00:08:07] Speaker C: I like the feel of it, and I like some of the chords and the ambiance of it. Yeah, I like some of that. Nuts. Definitely not the worst thing we've heard on the Baby Wheel. [00:08:16] Speaker D: Oh, no. Definitely not the worst we've ever heard. Different. I'll give it another listen. [00:08:20] Speaker B: Well, tell us if you like it. Let us know. And let's rubber stamp this. [00:08:26] Speaker A: In a world where new music is not easy to find. Welcome to New Bets. [00:08:45] Speaker C: Now it's time for the Mama Wheel. And as always, let's do a little bit of a round table. Last week, we got classic rock, and we. We've been asking for classic rock. Mark got his grunge not too long ago. She's kind of listening, I think, a bit. I'm very curious, Mark, anything that you predict or want to hear. [00:09:02] Speaker B: Has the Wheel turned over a new leaf in 2026? It's now listening to us. I think I want to go into the 80s somewhere. I don't know what kind of 80s, but something 80s, Frank. [00:09:11] Speaker D: Something in the 60s. I'll throw back 60. [00:09:14] Speaker C: Yeah, I could do some 80s, too. I know I had made specific requests about bands that are really known for one kind of music, but then try to branch off a little bit. Something. I'd like that. I wouldn't mind some 80s. [00:09:26] Speaker B: All right, let's do it. Here we go. Here's the wheel. [00:09:48] Speaker C: Frank, you were one album off when you requested some funk. Red Hot Chili Peppers, Californication. [00:09:56] Speaker D: Wow, look at that. [00:09:58] Speaker C: Pretty damn big album A week later. [00:10:01] Speaker D: Because it was a big one. [00:10:02] Speaker B: Had to be delivered, technically, two weeks later. [00:10:05] Speaker D: Two weeks later. You know what I mean? [00:10:08] Speaker B: This is 1999. It is the return of John Frusciante, who had left and Dave Navarro took his place. And this was a pretty big album. 15 million copies worldwide. It may not have been the one who catapulted them, but it definitely was the most popular commercially successful album they have. [00:10:25] Speaker C: Yeah, this is big. [00:10:26] Speaker D: It solidified them as a hit band. [00:10:28] Speaker B: Yeah, there's definitely big songs on here. It sold a lot of copies. They took a little dip on the Dave Navarro record and Then Came Right Back. [00:10:35] Speaker D: Which I like better, by the way. [00:10:37] Speaker C: I like that Dave Navarro record. [00:10:39] Speaker D: I like that one better than this one. [00:10:40] Speaker C: I probably will, too. I know a lot of people don't like that one, but I heard I was, like, pretty good. It felt like it was heavier, darker. [00:10:49] Speaker B: He's a different guitar player, too, than John for Shawn. Dave Navarro, when we did Jane's Addiction. I like his guitar playing a lot. It did change the sound of the band, I guess. It just didn't work out personality wise, I assume. Who knows why? Anyway, so this is Anthony Kiedis on vocals, John Frusciante electric guitar, slide guitar, acoustic guitar. Flea on bass guitar, and Chad Smith on drums. I assume what we would call classic lineup of Red Hot Chili Peppers. [00:11:12] Speaker C: Are we sure it's Chad Smith and not Will Ferrell? [00:11:15] Speaker B: It could be Will Ferrell. [00:11:16] Speaker C: Have you guys ever seen that skit on Jimmy Fallon, the drum off? [00:11:19] Speaker B: Yeah, it's pretty funny. All right. What is everyone's history with this record? [00:11:23] Speaker C: I just remember looking at the singles, definitely knowing at least four of them that I remember. I thought it was early to 2000s, though, for some reason. But I think I'm mixing it up with whatever probably came next. Mark, what about you? [00:11:36] Speaker B: I know all the singles. I don't think I've ever listened to this album. Straight Through. I've listened to Blood Sugar, Sex Magic straight through. I know that this. I don't remember listening Straight through. We used to play Scar Tissue. Yep, we've done that for a little bit. It was a big record. You couldn't get away from this thing either. I thought this was early 2000s, but it's 1999, which technically, it's close enough. [00:11:57] Speaker C: Frank, what about. [00:11:58] Speaker D: So when this Dropped. It's right around the time now. Grunge is not really dominating the Arrow Waves. Nu metal, Limp Bizkit, Korn is what you're hearing more of, which wasn't my style when this came out. I just held onto it dearly because it was the last of the golden era of alternative and grunge and all that other genre that we all have loved during that time. [00:12:21] Speaker B: I'm excited. I don't know if Sabino's excited. [00:12:23] Speaker C: I don't dislike the Chili Peppers. I'm not necessarily a massive fan. I don't seek them out, per se. I haven't heard everything either, so I can't really judge. I know the big hits. I don't mind the singles. I don't say to myself they're okay. I'm hoping to find some gems here that I haven't heard. I mean, there's what, 95 tracks on this record. So, I mean, it's got to be stuff that I haven't heard that I'm sure I'll probably like. [00:12:45] Speaker B: It's a typical 90s album. It has 15 tracks on it. It's almost 60 minutes long. It's the. Let's fill the CD with music as opposed to maybe we need to pare some of this down, because we don't need 60 minutes of music. It's just what happened in the 90s. [00:13:00] Speaker D: Some of those albums, 60 minutes. There were 55 minutes of good music, which you're probably gonna get here. [00:13:06] Speaker C: How long is Dirk. Because that's fucking full of good shit. [00:13:10] Speaker B: No, I'm not saying he can't be full of good shit. [00:13:12] Speaker C: You're not the only one who makes that argument. I've actually watched other people on YouTube and when they talk about some of the. Like, some of the rankings of albums from the 90s, and they will talk about that. Oh, it was a CD era, and people really started putting more and more music on there and then hidden tracks. [00:13:28] Speaker B: But most of the time, when it's that many song songs on an album, they're not always usually really good all the way through. It's very rarely that that happens. I think it was just the time everyone had to put that much on there because that's what they did. You had the format, you were restricted by vinyl. How much you could put on there. They felt a freedom to put all this music. I think that's what a lot of people did. Whether it was always good is another question. Anyway, the first one is around the world. It's the second single from the album. It reached Alternative Airplay 7 mainstream rock 16 in the United States. So that's pretty good. You can't really compl. This is a great song. I always like this song. I like John Fruscian's guitar player. Generally. I'm expecting good stuff out of this. This is around the. [00:14:39] Speaker A: All around the world we can make time for up and a stopping. Cause I'm in my palm Born in the north it's hard to entertain you. Cause I'm down for the state of Pennsylvania I try not to whine but I must warn you about the motherfucker Governor of California, Alabama Babysit. Hallelujah. Good Parker. I wish I knew ya I know, I know for sure. [00:15:22] Speaker C: When it first starts, it reminds me of one hot minute. It has that heaviness and then it kind of Goes into this other thing. And me personally, I don't think it's bad, but I'm a little disappointed if it continue with that heavy thing that it started in the beginning. I would have been like, yeah. And then it kind of went to this thing. It's catchy. It's okay. It's not bad. [00:15:42] Speaker B: Yeah, that guitar tone at the first part. Why couldn't he make it a little distorted there? Does it have to be clean? It's interesting that he does that. And it's definitely against the grain of what you would do. I think I would like to it to have been more dirty sounding. Flea's bass is awesome. It's got that fuzzy overdriven thing. And his bass parts during the ver are awesome. [00:16:02] Speaker C: That beginning is very Rick Rubin. [00:16:04] Speaker B: Yeah, it was really good. [00:16:05] Speaker D: I think that's what you expect from Red Hot Chili Peppers. They're gonna go against the grain. They're gonna go throw you off. You're gonna expect one sound. They're gonna hit you up with something completely different. That's why I really like this, this intro into it. Just starting it off right there with Flea. Right in your face with the bass. Awesome. [00:16:19] Speaker B: Verse 1. All around the world we could make time Romping in a stomping Because I'm in my prime Born in the north and sworn to entertain you Because I'm down for the state of Pennsylvania I try not to whine but I must warn you about California Alabama baby said hallelujah Good God girl I wish I knew you Chorus. I know, I know for sure that life is beautiful around the world I know, I know it's you. You say hello and then I say I do Miss Typical Anti kidis lyrics. And his delivery is always non singy and very spoken. He has a little bit of singing in here, but it's a lot of funky pseudo rap. I don't hate it. [00:16:56] Speaker C: It fits the music. You know when it's him. Without a doubt. Which is always cool when you can pick a singer out. [00:17:01] Speaker B: Yeah, No, I have no problem with his vocals. I know some people don't like that. Them I kind of like his vocals. They fit the band. [00:17:06] Speaker C: They don't bother me. [00:17:07] Speaker B: You wouldn't want to hear anyone else singing Red Hot Chili Pepper. [00:17:09] Speaker C: You don't want somebody crooning over this. [00:17:11] Speaker B: No. No, you don't. All right, let's continue. Here we go. [00:17:15] Speaker A: Around the world Back from Bombay Fox love Pop in your face Living in and out of a big fat suitcase Bonafide by step beside my johnson Yes I could in the Wisconsin I wake up the cake. It's a leg. She's kissing me as they do when they do in Sicily. I know, I know for sure that life is beautiful around the world. I know, I know it's you. You stay below. And then I say I. Where you want to go, who you want to be or what you want to do. Just come with me. I'm so glad that I saw the fountains. You and me girl sitting in the Swiss mountains. Me oh my O me and gah oh Freer than a buzz cuz I'm rocking. Oh around the I feel beautiful. Take a wipe cause life is beautiful. [00:18:38] Speaker C: That was a long who and I do like that. They went back to that beginning part. That's my favorite part of the song. [00:18:48] Speaker B: The melody is super catchy, even if the words are kind of silly about him going all around the world. I mean, there is a story in there that he's been around the world with the band and he likes all the things he's seen, all the places you've been, all the girls and all the places he's been. It's very catchy, even if you don't care what the words say. I don't know if you're going to like the next part. I have a feeling it's going to annoy you. I almost a positive that's going to be the case. Oh, it's coming. Let me read some lyrics. Verse 2 Come back baby, because I'd like to say I've been around the world. Back from Bombay, foxhole love pie in your face. Living in and out of a bid fact suitcase bona fide ride step beside Mark Johnson yes I could in the woods of Wisconsin I wake up, it's a lake, she's kissing me as they do when they do in Sicily. And back to the chorus. Then the third verse is where do you want to go? Who do you want to be? What do you want to do? Just come with me. Oh I saw a gun, I saw the fountains. You and me girls sitting in the Swiss mountains. Me oh my, oh me and Guy O Freer than a bird cuz we're rocking Ohio. Around the world I feel dutiful. Take a wife cuz life is beautiful. That's a lot harder to read than you would think. I almost got all tongue tied on the me oh my oh me oh guy oh. The words are silly. I don't think you're here for the words, tell you the truth. It's about the melody. It's about how it Makes you feel. It's about the catchiness of it. Because it is catchy. [00:20:00] Speaker D: The words are catchy. It, like you said, it tells the story. Always travel around the things that he's seen. I like it. The music is great, too. [00:20:07] Speaker A: I'm loving it. [00:20:07] Speaker B: Lee's a monster. Things he does and the weird little. There's no chords or anything going on. It's just him with that weird bass thing happening. And, you know, when he's playing bass, that's another thing. He's awesome. Well, he was a trumpet player. Do you know that? When he was young. [00:20:21] Speaker C: I think I do know that. [00:20:22] Speaker B: He played jazz trumpet. And he was good supposedly, too. [00:20:25] Speaker C: I think I've seen him play trumpet, actually. [00:20:27] Speaker B: Yeah, he's supposedly very good at that. It wouldn't be Rich Hot Chili Peppers just as much as it's Anthony Ketis's vocals without his space playing. It wouldn't be Red Hot Chili Peppers. All right, let's finish it up. Here we go. [00:20:41] Speaker A: Ding ding dong ding ding. [00:20:47] Speaker C: I've never heard that part. I don't think I've ever made it through this whole song. Really, I don't. At least I will. I don't remember that. I don't remember. [00:21:00] Speaker B: I could do without the ding dong ding ding dong dong. [00:21:04] Speaker C: Wait, you're gonna have to read all that. [00:21:06] Speaker B: Oh, great. All right, hold on. I'm gonna back it up. Here we go. [00:21:31] Speaker A: I know you're falling up, up and around the world and I have seen your love know I know I know it's you you say hello. [00:22:28] Speaker C: The beginning and the end are my favorite parts of that song. And that's not a put down. I like the way it starts and I like the way it ends. The stuff in the middle isn't bad, but I like those two parts. Parts. [00:22:37] Speaker B: The end part is really, really good. I haven't really said anything about Chad Smith. He's pretty solid. [00:22:42] Speaker C: He's very solid. I've grown to appreciate him a bit more. He keeps where he needs to keep within the band. Obviously you got to have a little bit of funk to play. Without a doubt. But, I mean, I've seen him do stuff on his own, and I've definitely grown to appreciate him more recently. [00:22:55] Speaker B: Well, now I have to read the outro. Let's hope I don't this up. The outro is. I know, I know for sure. Ding dang dong dong ding ding dong dong ding dang. I know, I know what you. [00:23:07] Speaker A: You. [00:23:07] Speaker B: Ding dang dong dong dang dang dong dong ding dang Mother Russia, do not suffer. I know you're bold enough I've been around the world and I've seen your love I know, I know it's you. You say hello, and then I say, I do. Supposedly, those were placeholders when they were recording the song, because he didn't have words yet, so he was using the ding dang dong dongs. And then he went back and recorded some words. And when Flea's daughter heard it, she's like, I missed the ding dang dong dong dangs. They went back and put the ding Dongs back in. That wasn't supposed to be in there. He just didn't have words. It was just a scat placeholder while he was trying to figure out what to say. And I just don't know if I could hear the song without the ding Dangs anymore, though. [00:23:46] Speaker C: I never knew that they were in there. [00:23:47] Speaker B: It's so funny that you never heard that before. I was gonna say, he either knows this and he's gonna hate this, or he never heard this before. [00:23:53] Speaker C: No, I never heard it. I know the song, though. I just never fully paid attention, I guess. [00:23:58] Speaker B: All right, Frank, why don't you go first? [00:23:59] Speaker D: I'm gonna give these eights across. Great opening track. The lyrics are awesome. The ding dang ding dong dong now hear. I didn't know that was the reason why I was in there. Now knowing that fact just made me appreciate the song even more. Production, everything about it is awesome. Mark. [00:24:16] Speaker B: I'm gonna do the same. I like this song a lot. I don't even mind the ding dong dong ding dang dangs. I'm gonna give it eights across, too. [00:24:23] Speaker C: Quintuple Ocho bebetta Nikki Sad. I will say sixes across. It's not bad. I'm not innates with this one, though. Sorry, guys. [00:24:31] Speaker B: No, that's okay. You don't have to like it the same way I do like the beginning part, and I like the end part. That end part is really, really good. The movement on the bass parts there. [00:24:39] Speaker C: They'Re both very simple parts, the beginning and the end. I really like how they bookend the song. [00:24:44] Speaker B: It's the intentional with the way they're played. I think that's what it is. Okay, next is Parallel Universe. This was a promotional single from this album, Alternative Airplay 37. Have you heard this one, Sav? I know you've heard this, right? [00:24:57] Speaker C: I want to say I recognize the name. I think once it starts, I'll probably remember it. [00:25:00] Speaker B: I haven't heard this in a while. I Don't know if I've ever listened to the whole album through. I know. I know all the singles. I'm sure I've listened to it. But it's been a long, long time. Here we go. This is Par Warlow, Universe. [00:25:34] Speaker A: Rivers. It's getting harder and harder to deal what can fast and underwater with thoughts can breathe easily Far away we'll meet in a sea Just let me pass down my sidewinder California Cave. [00:26:15] Speaker C: I remember the music but not the melody. I like this one better. I like the heaviness of it better. [00:26:19] Speaker B: I've always liked this song. It's a great song. Supposedly, since this was John Fruscianti's first album back, he had a little bit of heroin problem. I don't know if you've seen any of the videos of him in between the time a blood sugar sex magazine this do you ever see what he like? Looks looked like? [00:26:32] Speaker C: I know he was pretty bad. [00:26:34] Speaker B: It was pretty bad. Anthony Kiedis's book, he said that his guitar skills was not as great as they had been on past records. Not very intricate. So maybe that's why there's some simple parts here and not as complicated parts because maybe his guitar playing wasn't up to par because he was really coming off a bad time and I think he was doing other stuff. Just don't think he was playing guitar. I think when he came back it just wasn't as complicated as it could be. Even though the parts are very catchy, I think they're a lot simpler than maybe the stuff that's on Blood Sugar Sex Magic. [00:27:01] Speaker D: I like the opening there. We just killing it with the opening. Digging it. [00:27:04] Speaker C: I'm always a sucker for the that kind of stuff. I always love that. [00:27:09] Speaker B: It's simple, but it's very good. Verse 1 deep inside of a parallel universe it's getting harder and harder to tell what came first underwater where the thoughts can breathe easily far away you are made in the sea just like me. Chorus Christ, I'm a sidewinder I'm a California king I swear it's everywhere oh, it's everything. I think the words are a little bit better here than not. It's is simple. [00:27:29] Speaker C: I think the first one he was trying to simply get his point across in a melody that fit the music. Maybe he gets to open up a little bit more here. [00:27:38] Speaker B: Not all his lyrics are simply and silly stuff. [00:27:41] Speaker C: No. [00:27:42] Speaker B: All right, let's continue. Here we go. [00:27:45] Speaker A: Staring straight up into the sky oh my the solar system Every F in your eyes M you could die but your n Dead spider Wh. Take a look at the star in your head Feel that space kid Crash down a sidewinder I'm a California, California cake I swear it's everywhere now it's everything Crash down my sidewind now California cave, I swear and sandwich everything. Us the same Bless your heart Good. Kill the pressure Training on salted cheeks when you hear the Beloved. [00:29:31] Speaker C: I definitely like the song better. [00:29:33] Speaker D: I just love the bass playing. That's what I've been focusing on, just the bass playing throughout this whole song so far. [00:29:37] Speaker C: Mark, I know you said this is one of your favorite. [00:29:39] Speaker B: Yeah, I really do like it. I think the simplicity of it is okay and that he's not. Not doing too much. He's being simple. You notice there's not a lot of soloing happening here. Maybe that makes a lot of sense, that his guitar playing really wasn't up to snuff as it was before he left. [00:29:52] Speaker C: Well, it's good to have somebody like Flea in the band that can carry you. [00:29:55] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, he's carrying, all right. I was going to ask you, what do you think about the snare sound? [00:29:59] Speaker C: Oh, I love it. [00:30:00] Speaker B: I figure you would. [00:30:01] Speaker C: Oh, yeah. I love the pop. Absolutely love the pop. I've always liked his drum sound. [00:30:05] Speaker B: Sometimes snares don't sound like snares anymore. [00:30:08] Speaker C: I've said enough about drum production on some of the stuff we've listened to. [00:30:11] Speaker B: Well, that's maybe two albums in a row. Because you like the Alma Brothers sound, right? [00:30:15] Speaker C: Oh, yeah. I was going to say that I never paid attention much to the drumming in the Almond Brothers, believe it or not. I really appreciated some of the things that were done last week. I really got to listen to what he was playing, and definitely some of his stuff was really, really good. Can appreciate it. [00:30:29] Speaker B: Two good drum records in a row. Verse 2. Staring straight up into the sky oh, my, my. A solar system that fits in your eye Microcosm. You could die but you're never dead. Spider web Take a look at the stars in your head Feels a space, kid. Chorus, A little instrumental break. Verse 3. Psychic changes are born in your heart Pain, A nervous breakthrough that makes us the same. Bless your heart, girl Kill the pressure it's raining on salty cheeks. When you hear the Beloved song I am with you. I think the board's pretty decent. [00:30:57] Speaker C: Yeah, I like this song. I definitely like this one better than the first one. [00:30:59] Speaker B: Yeah, I think this is more your speed. I think it's a little less funky. I'm not sure if you're always up with the funk all the time. [00:31:05] Speaker C: Oh, I do. I like funk. Kind of like old school. [00:31:07] Speaker B: Oh, old school funk. [00:31:08] Speaker A: Okay. [00:31:09] Speaker B: All right, let's finish it up. Here we go. [00:31:18] Speaker A: I swear it's everywhere. It's everything. California can swear it's everywhere. Oh, it's everything. [00:32:45] Speaker C: I really like that ending. [00:32:46] Speaker B: Yeah. One of my favorite parts of that song. I like the effect that's going on at the end. [00:32:51] Speaker C: The noise. I like the noise he's making. [00:32:53] Speaker B: He's got feedback and stuff going on and an effect going on. I thought it was pretty cool. I liked it. I found out that, Christ, I'm a sidewinder. I'm a California king. Those are two species of strawberry snake in California. But I think it's a drug reference because again, it goes. I swear it's everywhere. Oh, it's everything. [00:33:09] Speaker C: I figured it was a snake and a bed size. [00:33:12] Speaker B: I was thinking the bed size too. [00:33:14] Speaker A: I would. [00:33:14] Speaker C: I mean, they're from California though, aren't they? Or no. Oh, yeah, I know he makes references to that. So I'm just kind of thinking that it was. It was that kind of reference. [00:33:22] Speaker B: Now suppose these two snakes and it's a metaphor for drugs being in your system. I think we have a lot of. [00:33:28] Speaker C: Drug references on this podcast. [00:33:30] Speaker B: There's a lot of drunk references in all the music we listen to. That's what it comes down to. [00:33:35] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:33:36] Speaker B: I'll go first. I'm going to say sevens across. I do like this a lot. I don't know if I'd like it more than around the world. It's a great song. [00:33:43] Speaker C: Music can change the world because it can change people. [00:33:46] Speaker A: And it's quintuple seven Nikki Titty baby. [00:33:50] Speaker C: Mark, what would you do if all of a sudden, all these people randomly including that in their day to day, you'd have to collect royalty or Nick would have to collect royalties. [00:33:58] Speaker B: Nicki would have to collect the royalties. I'm not doing the work work for him unless I'm getting a cut. [00:34:01] Speaker C: Yeah, no, that's what I'm saying. I'll go next. I'll make it easy. I'm matching you sevens across. [00:34:06] Speaker A: Wow. [00:34:08] Speaker C: Yeah, I like that one. That's a good song. I'd go back to that one. Yes, that's right. It's me. I know I've been gone for a long time, but I'm back. And it's quintuple seven, Nikki Titty baby. We gotta get Nick back, man. We need a better sample. [00:34:21] Speaker D: Frank, I was thinking the same as the two of you. But I like this song as equally as I like the previous. I'm gonna do eights across Lake Sav. I'm a sucker for that. That eights across for me. [00:34:35] Speaker B: Next song is Scar Tissue. We've played this song. I always like playing this song. This is pretty cool. This was the first single. It spent a record 16 consecutive weeks on the top the US Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. Sixteen weeks a long time. This is a pretty strong first bunch of songs. [00:34:51] Speaker C: It's definitely front loaded with the singles. [00:34:53] Speaker B: 100%. Yeah. They just took an old jam right to the front. This is Scar tissue. [00:35:10] Speaker A: Scott. Tissue that I wish you saw. Captain Mr. Know It All. I'll close your eyes and I'll kiss you. Cause with the birds I'll share With the birds I share this alone with the birds I share this alone Love you and push me up against the wall Young tucked girl in a push up bra Falling all over myself to lift your heart and taste your heel. Cause with the birch and shed it's the lonely view with the birch and shed It's a lonely Love you with the. Blood. [00:36:10] Speaker C: That's very catchy. This isn't bad. I've always kind of dug this one. It kind of close your eyes and groove along to it. And I always like that little guitar part too there that he does. I think he does something later on as well. [00:36:21] Speaker B: It's right light and flowy. I like the false falsetto vocals. That's pretty cool. In the second chorus. That was really nice. Suppose this is another thing about a drug addict getting sober. He said he was sitting in a park and he saw the birds flying on top while he was sitting there. That's where he got the idea. I thought it was cool. Simple guitar playing. Crazy bass playing from Flea. It's a little hard to play anything complicated over what Flea's doing because he's just all over the place. You have to be simple or you have to match exactly what he's doing. There's no impression between. [00:36:48] Speaker C: Do you know at all how their songwriting goes? If it kind of starts with the guitar, if it starts with the bass. [00:36:54] Speaker B: I don't know what I remember. It's a combination of both things. There was a making of blood sugar sex magic back in the day when they were all in that house. I don't know if you ever saw that. When they were recording in the house. They basically just bounced ideas off each other until they got something that they wanted. I'm sure that's the same way this happened. This song won a Grammy in 2000 for best rock Song. [00:37:13] Speaker D: They put all the hits up front. Loving it just as much as the previous two. [00:37:17] Speaker B: Verse 1 Scar tissue that I wish you saw Sartastic Mr. Know It All Close your eyes and I'll kiss you because with the birds I'll share With the birds I'll share this lonely viewing I don't think that's correct, but I'll read it. But I think that's wrong. With the birds I'll share this lonely viewing verse 2 I'll push me up against the wall Young Kentucky girl in a push up bra Falling all over myself to lick your heart and taste your health. And back to the chorus again. Let's do it. Here we go. [00:37:45] Speaker A: Blood loss in a bathroom St A southern girl with a sky lit Draw a wave goodbye to my wham paw Cuz with the birds of shed with the birds and shed it's a long Love you With the birds and shed it's alone Love you Soft spoken with broken jaw Step outside but not to brawl in all the sweet with call it fall I'll make it to the moon if I have a crawling with you. With you. [00:38:56] Speaker C: At least from what I remember. He's a Fender guy, right? Frusciante. [00:39:00] Speaker B: Yeah, Strat. [00:39:01] Speaker C: Strat, right. It's a nice tone. [00:39:02] Speaker B: Yeah, his guitar tone's always been good. I don't really have any problems with his guitar tone. He uses interesting tone tones. I like the slide on the solo. Actually. I like the guitar part that's behind the solo. Almost better than the solo. [00:39:16] Speaker C: Me too. I agree. I like that thing that's going on behind it. I was going to say that as well. [00:39:20] Speaker B: Very simple, but very appropriate for what is going on. [00:39:23] Speaker D: Oh man, I'm in paradise right now. Like I said at the beginning, to me this album was a farewell to the music era that I remember so well in the 90s. I wasn't too crazy of what was in the horizon. I'm still not that crazy about it. Hearing this brings me back and I'm loving the third track on it. [00:39:39] Speaker B: All right, let's continue. Here we go. [00:39:41] Speaker A: That I wish you saw Cap myth to know it all I close your eyes and I'll kiss you Cuz with the birds are scared with the bird shed is lonely with the bird shed is the lonely with the bird shed is the lonely you Sam. [00:40:51] Speaker C: I always like when bands do that because I think about sometimes and we would jam out songs and somebody would just keep going and we kind of look like. Right All Right. Stop. But I do like when they do those little weird things at the end. I've always liked that. [00:41:03] Speaker B: I like. They left the rubbing of the slide at the end of that. Right there. Doing the vibrato on the slide. Yeah, I like that. Verse 3. Blood loss in the bathroom stall A Southern girl with a scarlet draw I wave goodbye to Ma and PA because with the birds I'll share Then the Chorus again. Verse 4. Soft spoken with a broken jaw Step outside but not to brawl all the sweet we call it fall I'll make it to the moon if we have. [00:41:25] Speaker C: To crawl I like the sentiment. The first one as well. I appreciate the sentiment. Even here, technically, there aren't a lot of words and they repeat the chorus a lot. You can appreciate the sentiment of what he's trying to say. [00:41:36] Speaker B: Yeah, it's a great song. Three good songs in a row. Frank, why don't you go first? [00:41:39] Speaker D: I'm gonna sound like a super fanboy right now. I'm gonna have to do eights across. The sentiment of the song, the lyric. Great. Just loving it. Eights across. That's all I can say. Well produced. But then again, did you expect anything less from Rick Rubin? [00:41:53] Speaker B: I'm debating. I'm not sure if I should do eight or seven. I was wondering. To do eight. [00:41:56] Speaker D: Think your heart tells you nines? [00:41:58] Speaker C: Hey, I didn't hear a 9. [00:42:00] Speaker B: I'm going to start like a fanboy, too. I'm sounding the same way. I'm going to do seven on everything. And then music on eight. I don't know if I can do it all the way across. His bass playing is ridiculously good so far in these last three, and especially on this track. Again, Chad Smith. You don't really talk about him that much, but his drumming is right on point. All the little things he does. The way he holds himself into the pocket. Seth. [00:42:20] Speaker C: Six on the lyrics. [00:42:21] Speaker A: Six. [00:42:22] Speaker C: Six on the music, seven on the melody, six on arrangement, and seven on production. [00:42:26] Speaker B: It's still a good score. [00:42:27] Speaker C: No, it's not a bad song. Would I leave it on if it's on the radio? Probably not. [00:42:32] Speaker B: Really. [00:42:33] Speaker C: I don't. I don't think it's a bad song. The one before this, now hearing it again, I absolutely would. Without a doubt. I appreciate that song more now than I did before. [00:42:41] Speaker B: Alrighty. The next one is Other side. [00:42:52] Speaker A: How long, how long will I slide or separate my side I don't, don't believe it's bad Slitting my throat, it's all I am I heard you voice through A photograph I thought that I've been brought up the path Won't you know you can never go back I gotta take it on the other side the centuries are what it meant to me A cemetery where I marry the sea A stranger things will never change my mind I gotta take it on the other side Take it on the other side Take it on, take it on I love how long when I slide. I don't. I don't believe it's there. [00:44:25] Speaker C: This one's not bad either. I just wish the. And maybe it happens later when the chorus comes back in. There's more of an oomph behind it with the music, maybe, like electric. And that's kind of. Kind of what I was expecting. I think it would have elevated the song. But yeah, I mean, obviously, this is a big hit, too. [00:44:40] Speaker B: I think the melody is great. I think lyrics are good. Supposedly, again, about struggle with addiction. Possibly even a tribute to Hillel Slovak, which was their first guitar player. A lot of drug references in here still. I assume he's still having his own issues he's trying to work through, and he's working through them a little bit in the music, too. Bass playing is good. Guitar playing is good. I have no nothing but good things to say about this. [00:45:03] Speaker D: This may be my least favorite. I love it. That makes sense to all of you. [00:45:07] Speaker B: There's not much more to say, really. It's just very good. It starts off the chorus, which I like, which is pretty cool. Which is. How long, how long will I slide? Well, separate my side I don't, I don't believe it's bad Slit in my throat it's all I ever. And then verse one is, I heard your voice through a photograph I thought it up it brought up the past Once you know you can never go back you got to take it on the other side. Verse 2. Well, centuries are what it meant to be A cemetery where I married the sea A stranger thing could never change my mind I got to take it on the other side Take it on the other side Take it on, take it on Back to the chorus. And now let's continue. [00:45:54] Speaker A: She want to know am I still a slut? I gotta take it on the other side. A Scarlet and she's in my bed A candidate for a soulmate Blair push the trigger and I pull the thread I gotta take it it on the other side Take it on the other side Take it on, take it on I love how long. I don't, I don't believe it's fair. Turn me off Take Me for a hard ride Turn me out leave me on the other side I yell and tell her that it's not my friend I tear her down after her down and then it's. I don't believe it's fair. That's all I ever have I don't. I don't believe it. [00:48:16] Speaker C: That thing that happens before, that little soloish thing, breakdown before he sings. It's so 90s that. That thing that they did, it just roots you so much. I mean, obviously the album roots you no matter what. I know Mark. Sometimes you talk about the production with the 80s and the reverb on the drums and things like that. That really rooted. That really puts it there. It's cool hearing stuff like that. [00:48:38] Speaker B: Yeah, I like that part a lot. I didn't miss that. They didn't go heavy in the chorus. I like that they use the background vocal to change it up. I know you rather have it a little bit heavier. [00:48:47] Speaker C: Just a little oomph. [00:48:48] Speaker B: I get it. [00:48:49] Speaker C: I appreciate that. I do hear what you're saying. They did use the vocals to definitely change. Change it up. [00:48:54] Speaker B: Verse 3. Pour my life into a paper cup the ashtray's full and I'm spilling my guts she want to know am I still a I gotta take it on the other side A scarlet starlet and she's in my bed A candidate for the soul mate bled Pull the trigger and I pull the thread I gotta take it on the other side Back to the pre chorus. Back to the chorus. And the bridge part is Turn me on. Take me for a hard ride Burn me out Leave me on the other side I yell and tell it it's not my friend I tear it down Tear it down and it's born again I like that little bridge part. I thought it was pretty cool. They throw a lot of curveballs in on you. I think I'm going to have to do sevens across. Guitar playing wise again. I do see that he's not really doing anything super complicated. That's okay because sometimes you don't need super complicated. [00:49:38] Speaker C: It's groovy, man. [00:49:39] Speaker B: It's quintuple. [00:49:40] Speaker A: Seven. [00:49:40] Speaker B: Nikki Titty baby Frank. [00:49:42] Speaker D: You have to play that one more time. [00:49:44] Speaker A: Mark. [00:49:44] Speaker D: Sevens across from me. Do like the song on It's Just For Me is not as energy driven as the previous ones. [00:49:50] Speaker A: Nikki Titty Baby Quintuple 7. [00:49:53] Speaker C: I will say 6 on lyrics and arrangement, 7 on the production, 7 on the melody, 6 on the music. [00:50:01] Speaker B: It's still good scores. Even though it's not your thing. [00:50:03] Speaker C: I Don't think these songs are bad at all. [00:50:05] Speaker B: The next song wasn't a single. I haven't heard this in a while. This is Get On Top. [00:50:13] Speaker A: Get on top get on top Hit me, come get me I'm bite but kiss your pimping gorilla C Come with me cause I'm a n killer yo ill But I'm a linker on your block and give the banger to a cop band Pick a little before I knock in Set you up to get on top get on top Communications of a mastermind Last temptation of my kind Extra planetary sign when you realize. Right on get up get caught. [00:51:13] Speaker C: I like the music. I like the heaviness. This to me is the heavier funk aspect. I like that. I like the bass and the drumming and I like the production on it. The melody and the words are what they are. That I'm not too crazy about. [00:51:25] Speaker B: This is old school Red Hot Chili Peppers. More like Mother's Milk style, I think. Would it be funny to say that John Franti was listening to Republic Enemy and came up with this? He said he was listening to Public Enemy and he came up with the ref. [00:51:37] Speaker C: Listen. They got some heavy stuff, man. A lot of good Public Enemy, man. [00:51:40] Speaker B: I think it's really cool. It's obviously not going to be a radio song. It's not for that. This is where they started. This is the kind of stuff that they played maybe faster than this. It's still a little mid tempo. I think it's pretty cool. [00:51:51] Speaker A: I like it. [00:51:51] Speaker B: I like the guitar playing. I think all the musicianship's good. And his little rappy style works perfectly for this. [00:51:57] Speaker D: This is what I was hoping for when I said a little bit funk. Funk metal. This is it. Loving it. [00:52:03] Speaker B: Funk a dunk intro get on top, get on top Refrain Hit me, come and get me I bite but she bit me. Verse 1 gorilla cunt illa Sammy D and Salmonella Come with me cuz I'm an ass killer. You're ill but I'm iller Pre Chorus I'm a linger on your block and give the finger to the cop and pick a lock before I knock and set you up to get on the on top chorus. Complications of a mastermind Last temptation of my kind Extra planetary sign when do we align? All in time Right on. Then the refrain comes back in again. It's a fun little song. [00:52:39] Speaker C: Yeah, I'm not crazy that they low keyed in the chorus either. Wish they kept that energy straight through. [00:52:44] Speaker B: Yeah, I can see that. And Frank's happy because he finally got the funk funk out of Here we go, Grasshopper. [00:52:51] Speaker A: A show stopper the life of a come with me I'm a big pop up you do but I whopper exterminate my cause. You want to draw some stars? Be the one to see my flaw make me bleed with painting claws but you don't stop communications. [00:53:21] Speaker C: There. [00:53:27] Speaker A: Right on, Sam. Get on top, get on top Hit me, come get me I fight but get shit pimping Speed Baller Rock Scholar$, come with me cause I'm a free baller you holler I'm a linger on your blocking Give the finger to a coping pick a lock before I knock off set you up to get on top get on top, get on top, get on top, get on top Mark. [00:55:04] Speaker C: I defer to you. I don't know if it's really a solo. More like a bridge. Were you okay with what he did? That floaty guitar thing? Would you have preferred something a little bit more intricate? [00:55:14] Speaker B: I was just reading that he had some screaming guitar solos for the song. He said he ended up just playing these chord things because they sounded a little bit better to him. And he just floated on the top of everything. I think it needed some kind of a solo. Personally, that would be one of the flaws of the song for me. I understand what he's trying to do. I would have liked more of a wawa solo on there. He does really good stuff with the Wawa. I like that riff. I think that's pretty cool. I'm happy with the way it is. Although, you know, solo would have been nice. Verse 2 Grasshopper a showstopper the life of a wife swapper Come with me because I'm the big bopper you do but I whopper exterminate my cause you want to draw some straws Be the one to see my flaws make me bleed with painted clothes Chorus, then the guitar solo back to get on top. Never fain comes back first three a speedballer, road scholar, a bottom bitch and a bottom dollar come with me, come because I'm a free faller you hoot but I holler. And back to the pre chorus. The first time around and the get on Tops. It's a catchy little song. I'm gonna give it six across. You could download the lyrics a little bit for this song. This is kind of what it needs. I don't think it can have very serious lyrics. It's fine. [00:56:16] Speaker D: Frank 1.7 is across on this one. I'm gonna give the lyrics a pass because it does fit the frame. Of the song after you mentioned inspired by Public Enemy. I can actually hear a little bit of the Public Enemy and their D influences, especially with Brave the Noise. So like it Sevens. It's great to be here. Thank you. It's quintuple 7 just for Nicolo. Nikki Titty, baby. [00:56:36] Speaker C: I always find it funny when you play his sevens on top of his sevens. [00:56:40] Speaker B: I do that on purpose all the time. [00:56:42] Speaker C: I will start with the low point, which is the lyrics. I'm going to say a four on the lyrics, but I will say a seven on the music. Because when it rocks and funks, I think they do it really, really well. The chorus actually didn't bother me as much the second time around. I'll say a six on arrangement melody. I was going to say five, but I think that's a little low. It's fine for what it is. So I'll say 6, 7 on the production. I think when it's in that pocket, it's really good. [00:57:06] Speaker B: Okay, we're coming around again and to another single. This is the title track, Californication. It sold 6 million copies of the single in the United States. By itself. [00:57:16] Speaker C: Yeah, this was huge. I mean, it still gets played. [00:57:19] Speaker B: This is Californication. [00:57:42] Speaker A: Psychic spies from China Try to steal your mind's elation and little girl from Sweden Dream of silver screen for 10 and if you want these kind of dreams It's Californication. It's the edge of the world in all of Western civilization the sun may rise in the east at least it settled in a final location it's understood that Hollywood sells Californication. Hey, I'll Sergeant Vera. Will it break the spell of aging? Celebrity skin is this your gender? Is that warrior waking firstborn unicorn Hot cold softball Dream of California Dream of California. [00:59:11] Speaker C: I actually like this one better than I remembered because I just have that dream of Californiacation noise stuck in my head. And I think whenever it's on the radio, that's all I ever hear. It's kind of my least favorite part of the song. Someone's like, oh, I'm not listening to this. I do kind of like the melody and the music in the verses and the pre chorus and the words are actually pretty good. [00:59:29] Speaker B: Yeah, he's talking about the seedy part of Los Angeles and what happens to people who come to California, what they do and how they sell. This dream of people from Sweden coming here and women coming here and getting plastic surgery to stop the aging process because you can't be old in Hollywood. It's a pretty obvious and very thought out lyric. I like the beginning. I like how the bass and the guitar kind of meld together into one thing. You're not too sure is that guitar playing that. Is that bass playing that. I'm not sure. They do a very good symbiotic thing together, which I like a lot. I don't mind the chorus. It's simple. [01:00:02] Speaker C: It doesn't ruin the song for me especially hearing it now. Nuts. These songs are bad. Typically when it's on, I don't leave it on the radio. Hearing them now, it's different. Maybe they didn't really stick with me and they're not bad. So hearing it now, at least a little bit critically, some of the things I get to appreciate a little bit more. [01:00:17] Speaker B: Song was played a lot. [01:00:19] Speaker C: Oh God, yeah. Oh, it's played a lot now. It's still played a ton. [01:00:22] Speaker B: It's played so much that you don't want to hear it, but when you listen to it and the way the verses are put together and the words. A really good song. [01:00:28] Speaker D: Always been one of my favorite actually, because it really does capture what ends up ultimately happening to so many people that you gone chase that Hollywood dream and how they just get screwed. Californication the word itself. California fornication. That's what ends up happening to you. You get screwed in the worst way. Chasing that dream. She can chew you up and spit you back out and really bang it to your heart. This is why I really do like the song. It just captures it perfectly. [01:00:52] Speaker B: Verse 1 Psychic spies from China Try to steal your mind's elation and a little girls from Sweden dream of silver screen quotation if you want these kind of dreams it's Californication verse 2 it's the edge of the world and all of western civilization Some may rise in the east at least it settled in a final location is understood that Hollywood sells Californication Pre chorus Pay your surgeon very well to break the spell of aging Celebrity skin is this your chin or is that war you're waging? Firstborn unicorn Hardcore soft porn Dream of Californication Dream of Californication and let's continue Here we go. [01:01:32] Speaker A: A teenage bride with a baby inside Getting high on information and buy me a star and a blue eyed it's kind of fornication. Space may be the final frontier but it's made in a Hollywood basement and cobalt can you hear the sphere singing songs off station to station and el's not far away It's Californic. Born and raised by those that praise control of population Everybody's been there and I don't mean no vacation first born unicorn Hot girl Softball Dream of California Dream of California Dream of California. [01:02:56] Speaker C: I was wondering if you were going to stop it. So he's going to stop it there. He's going to kind of go into the thing. Lyrically, so far, I think this is the best one by far. I like the way the terms that he's using and the references he's using. It's a good song. It's. It's better than. I remember hearing it so many times. It's always a Californication part I pick up on. [01:03:15] Speaker A: I'm. [01:03:15] Speaker C: I'm getting to appreciate it here. [01:03:17] Speaker B: I like the keyboard part that they insert in there, too. That's pretty cool. I just think the words are very clever. Californication. The word itself is a very clever word. Verse 3 Marry me, girl beyond my fairy to the world Be my very own constellation A teenage bride with a baby inside Getting high on information and buy me a star on the boulevard it's Californication. Verse 4 Space may be the final frontier but it's made in a Hollywood basement and Cobain. Can you hear the sphere singing songs off station to station? And Alderon's not far away It's California here Vacation Pre chorus Born and raised by those who praise control of population well, everybody's been there. I don't mean on vacation. Firstborn unicorn Hardcore soft porn. And then back to the chorus. I assume the Cobain thing is just a reference to Circle Bane. I assume that's what it's about. And saying that the moon landing was made in Hollywood. Space may be the final frontier but it's made in a Hollywood basement and then there's a Star wars reference Alderaan not far away. This is one of the songs where he uses his words very well. [01:04:14] Speaker C: It could be a Star Trek reference difference, though. Space may be the final frontier but. [01:04:18] Speaker B: It'S made in a Hollywood basement oh, yes, maybe. Well, it could be both, technically. All right, here we go. [01:04:41] Speaker A: Sam. Destruction leads to a very rough road but it also breeds creation an earthquake's out to a girl's guitar they're just another good vibration Entitled waves couldn't save the world from California. Break the spell of aging Sicker than the rest There is no test but this is what you're craving first born unicorn Hardcore Stockholm of the California Dream of California Dream of California. [01:06:19] Speaker C: I didn't like that solo part. I felt that he didn't know what to do play and he kind of did it. And it was almost as if, hey, we need something here. Just play anything. Their breaks are typically more interesting than that. [01:06:33] Speaker B: That part of it is what it is like he's not overplaying because maybe he can't overplay the one before where. [01:06:39] Speaker C: He said talked about a ripping solo would have been cool and he had them, but he didn't do it. I still like that better than what he was doing here. That was my least favorite part of the song, I think. [01:06:48] Speaker B: If you could have any criticism, the guitar solo is probably the one weakest link. It's the works. It's just not the greatest thing. Verse 5 destruction leads to a very rough road but it also breeds creation and earthquakes are To a girl's guitar, they're just another good vibration and tidal waves couldn't save the world From Californication back to the first pre chorus and then chorus out. I think, Sabina, you have to go first because now you're having a rediscovery of this. [01:07:11] Speaker C: I will say an eight on the lyrics. I think they're very good. Six on arrangement and seven on everything else. It's a little ding I had to do. I wasn't gonna do it until we got there. Lyrically, I think it's by far the best. He does a really good job in describing what's going on, and it's very clever. Like he said, I really enjoyed that. [01:07:30] Speaker D: Frank lyrics. I'm gonna give a 9. Everything else I get a given 8. The lyrics are so good. They really do capture that California dream and how it ultimately screws you. Digging it. [01:07:41] Speaker B: I'm gonna do eight in lyrics and seven on every everything else. I don't hate the guitar so as much as Savino does. [01:07:46] Speaker C: No, I didn't hate it, but I felt it was meh. I know. [01:07:50] Speaker B: You know, man, I felt it could have been better too. But it doesn't really kill the song for me. [01:07:54] Speaker C: No, it doesn't kill the song. [01:07:56] Speaker B: Okay, we're at the end of this side. This is easily. [01:08:09] Speaker A: Easily lift get carried away easily let's get married today Shouting shouted a rope on this road Everything looks good A licking sticky sticker when you back it a shot go Everything must go the story of a woman on the morning of the wall Remind me if you really exactly what we're fighting for Calling a calling for something in the air Calling a calling I know you must be there Easily let get called in easily where won't they count in a k Shaking for the sake of his soul. Everything must go. Look in mind I'm tired of all the thing that you own. Everything must go. I can't tell you who to idolize. You think it's almost over but it's only on the rise. Calling a calling for something in the air. Calling a call and I know you must be there. Story of a woman on the morning of a war. Remind me if you win exactly what we're fighting for. Tell me if you're the one because they're all water in the back. [01:09:56] Speaker C: That chorus is absolutely something. I'm hoping it'll register. Without a doubt. The chorus is absolutely something. I can't remember what it is. This probably under the first one is my least favorite on this side. [01:10:08] Speaker B: I don't hate it. I remember it now. I haven't heard this in a long, long, long time. This is definitely a deep track from this album. [01:10:14] Speaker C: I think if it was heavier, I'd like it because then just like balls to the wall. Kind of heavy. [01:10:18] Speaker B: Yeah, it's not my favorite on this either. [01:10:20] Speaker D: Took a few tracks to get there. We may have landed on my least favorite one so far. It's. [01:10:26] Speaker B: It's very wordy. He's wordy in general. This is even worse. Verse 1 easily let's get carried away. Easily let's get married today. Pre Chorus 1 I don't think this is labeled right, but whatever, I'll just read it the way it is. Shaolin shouted a rose from his throat Everything must go. A licking stick is thicker when you break it to show everything must go. Chorus the story of a woman on the morning of a war. Remind me, if you will, exactly what we're fighting for. Calling and calling for something in the air. Calling and calling, I know you must be there. Verse 2 easily let's get caught in a wave. Easily we won't get caught in the cage. Pre chorus 2 Shaolin shaking for the sake of his soul. Everything must go. Looking mighty tired of all the things that you own. Everything must go. Chorus 2 I can't tell you who to idolize. You think it's almost over, but it's only on the right. Arise. Calling and calling for something in the air. Calling and calling, I know you must be there. The story of a woman on the morning of a war. Remind me, if you will, exactly what we're fighting for. Throw me to the wolves because there's order in the pack. Throw me to the sky because they know I'm coming back. [01:11:28] Speaker C: You needed like 10 sips of water during that, man. [01:11:30] Speaker B: It's a lot of words, dude. There's some kind of a story here. So it's not just random words put together. I don't think they're horrible. I think they might be the best part of the actual song. Let's continue. Here we go. [01:12:05] Speaker A: Out of all the things you ow Everything must go the story of a woman on the morning of a wall Remind me if you hear exactly what we're fighting for Calling and calling for something in the air Calling a calling I know you must be there I don't want to be A little research monkey boy. The creature that I am is only going to destroy Throw me to the wood because there's water in the back Throw me to the sky because I know I'm coming back. Sam. [01:13:30] Speaker C: I like that end part. That was actually my favorite part of the song. It's not terrible. [01:13:34] Speaker B: It's a little bit of filler. It's not as good as the other songs on the album. It just isn't. And the guitar playing is just weird. It's so simple. It's even worse than the last solo. [01:13:43] Speaker C: I think I liked it better. [01:13:46] Speaker B: Did you? [01:13:48] Speaker C: I did. I found it at least more interesting. I felt the solo and the last. [01:13:52] Speaker B: Was so I feel that about this one. I don't know. I expect more out of him, but again, this could be a thing of him not being really up to the task. His rhythm playing seems fine. Maybe it's just the solo playing. And I generally like his guitar playing almost all the time. Well, pre Chorus two Shaolin shaking for the sake of his soul Everything must go Looking mighty tired of all the things that you own everything must go Chorus 3 the story of a woman on the morning of a war reminded Remind me, if you will exactly what we're fighting for Calling and calling for something in the air Calling and calling I know you must be there I don't want to be your little research monkey boy the creature that I am is only going to destroy Throw me to the wolves because it's order in the pack Throw me to the sky because I know you're coming back and then the little outro. Frank, what do you think, Mark? [01:14:41] Speaker D: Remah, in the beginning, I said, you have many albums. That's 55 minutes of good music out of 60. This is the five minutes I'm not enjoying into the album of this one. So sixes for me across. It's not terrible when you stack it up against what we just finished hearing, it falls short of that. High scores for me. [01:14:59] Speaker B: I don't really like this that much. The guitar playing doesn't do very much for me. Lyrics aren't horrible. Maybe I'll say six on the lyrics and five on everything else. It's just not my favorite. Seth. [01:15:09] Speaker C: I will say five on the lyrics. It's not very memorable, especially compared to the other ones. You know what? Five on everything except music. I'll give them a six on the music and six on production. Compared to some of the other stuff that's been going on, just not as interesting. [01:15:23] Speaker B: Well, I think side two is either going to be really good or we're going to have lots more of this. This is very front loaded. There's not much on the second side that you would know unless you heard the album. It's going to be very deep track. [01:15:35] Speaker C: That's good. I look forward to that. [01:15:37] Speaker B: Yeah. Maybe you'll find some other stuff you like. All the popular stuff's on the first side. Now we're going to hear what other stuff is on here. I haven't heard this in a long time, so I don't know. [01:15:44] Speaker C: Remember, I've never heard this album before other than what's been on the radio. [01:15:48] Speaker B: Technically you've heard about half the album at this point. [01:15:50] Speaker C: Yes. Remember? No. [01:15:53] Speaker B: All the singles. You've heard half the album. [01:15:55] Speaker C: Even going into it, I'd heard half the album. [01:15:57] Speaker B: Yeah, it was an interesting album to get it sold. More than Blood Sugar Sex Magic. I think Blood Sugar Sex Magic a better album. It didn't sell as much, but I think this is not as good. But that could be wrong. Maybe the second side is going to be great. I don't remember so I don't know. Sav, why don't you do your thing? [01:16:14] Speaker C: We are part of the Deep Dive Podcast Network and the Boneless Podcast Network. [01:16:18] Speaker B: Boneless, you know, like those chicken wings without the bone. [01:16:21] Speaker C: Like I always say. Great bunch of guys took us in right away.
