[00:00:48] Speaker B: Enjoy.
Foreign.
[00:01:14] Speaker A: Welcome back to another episode of rock roulette podcast. That's right, the crazy ass podcast. It took over 1, 900 albums. Stuck them in a list, stuck them in a wheel. Every other week we spin the wheel. She picks a record for us and we go through it track by track. We talk about the music, the lyrics, the production, the melody and the arrangement and we give it scores. Just a bunch of friends who love music want to do a podcast. And everyone who takes this trip of discovery and rediscovery, as we say every week, we really want to thank you. Tell us what you like, what you don't like. Maybe suggest an album for the Mama wheel or maybe a single for the Baby wheel. Whatever it is, we definitely pay attention. We are a duo. Tonight again we have Mark. Oh, hi Mark.
[00:01:50] Speaker C: What's up guys?
[00:01:51] Speaker A: And I'm Sav.
[00:01:51] Speaker C: Ciao Bona.
[00:01:53] Speaker A: Last week we got White Line's third album. Mark, I know you said you wanted a White lion album. I'm not sure if this is the one you wanted. We did the first side. We dug at least two of the songs, then the other one without even knowing. I think we would have said that they sounded rushed and this album was incredibly rushed. You said it was done in two weeks, which is amazing. I think that's really our biggest thing so far. Obviously the playing is good, especially Vito Brado. Without a doubt, that stands out. But yeah, the songs don't feel fleshed out enough. Is that your general take?
[00:02:25] Speaker C: Yeah, his guitar playing was good. I think the record was written in two weeks. I don't know how long the recording took, but still two weeks to write 11 songs or how many songs they wrote. Maybe they wrote more.
[00:02:35] Speaker A: I don't know.
[00:02:36] Speaker C: Vito Brada saves a lot of songs for me. I think the first three songs are okay and then the next three are a little sketchy. Choruses are not as long or they make second choruses Longer with the first chorus should be as long as the second one is. So it does feel a little rushed.
[00:02:50] Speaker A: But I remember the second side. Obviously there's a big cover that they do a really good job on that we touched on. I think my favorite song overall is on the second side. From what I remember. It's a little bit different for them, a little bit heavier. We will get into that. Before we do that, we get to span what we'd like to call the baby wheel in our new bed section, where we basically listen to a single that's come out within the last year and a half that we haven't heard and we just listen to it and just give our overall opinion. Let's go to the new BET section.
In a world where new music is not easy to find, welcome to New bets.
[00:03:32] Speaker C: All right, here's the new Bets Wheel.
[00:03:47] Speaker A: Rattle bones Last Groove in Town do we know anything about this mark?
[00:03:51] Speaker C: No. No clue.
[00:03:52] Speaker A: Good.
I like it better that way.
[00:03:54] Speaker C: Me too. Here we go. Last Groove in Town by Ratt.
[00:04:22] Speaker B: Close your eyes Me aph We fly high through ethereal skies Stop me if you've heard this song before.
Sing last week. Come dance the breeze let's bought some mystery into its ears world to fail while others simply spoken we are tail to the feet of a darker heart Color darkness for the last groove in town.
Spirits come alive at night when nothing's up out of day let's give away so much precious time you can back your bags you can carry on rise and fall all up on the dark stay clean while dirt grips your mind we are dance to the feet of the darker heart Color suckers for the lair's crew kids down.
Sam.
Forgotten as the years roll by now won't tell I'd rather give it to my.
My only drinking could come for near never doubt this fallacy Satching found a nest Grooving sound Satching found a lamp Grooving sound Satching found the last growing sound.
[00:08:11] Speaker A: I like the overall vibe of the song. It was full. I wasn't crazy about his voice and it wasn't bad. I think he can sing. I wish he kind of did it differently in this song. Some of it reminded me a little bit like Great white. It kind of had a little bit that bluesy thing. I like the instrumentation. I mean, the drums, whatever. But overall I want to like it more. I think maybe that could be it, but it wasn't bad. What do you think?
[00:08:34] Speaker C: I really, really, really like that a lot.
[00:08:36] Speaker A: Did you good?
[00:08:37] Speaker C: Yeah, I thought it was really good. It's a very bluesy sort of Rolling Stones, a little bit going on there. It has a sound that reminds me of something, but I can't put my finger on it.
[00:08:48] Speaker A: To me, Great White came to mind, which I actually like. I think Great White was one of those standout bands for me in that era. I'm going to go back to that one because I think on Re Listen, it might really click for me. I like that vibe. I had feel to it. I like songs have feel. And that song definitely had feel.
[00:09:03] Speaker C: They're from Philadelphia. They're a trio, believe it or not. Obviously on the record they're overdubbing parts. But I'd like to see what it sounds like live in just a trio format.
[00:09:11] Speaker A: Probably good.
[00:09:12] Speaker C: I thought it was good. I liked it a lot.
[00:09:13] Speaker A: Maybe they had other musicians on stage with them.
[00:09:15] Speaker C: I don't know.
[00:09:16] Speaker A: I'm sure they'll be on the list now if they weren't on the list before, right?
[00:09:19] Speaker C: Yes, I did put them on the list. Figuring that maybe we'll get it. Who knows? There over 1900 albums on the list. Who knows?
[00:09:25] Speaker A: I'd be curious to hear the rest.
[00:09:26] Speaker C: Yeah, me too.
[00:09:27] Speaker B: Cool.
[00:09:27] Speaker C: Let us know if you guys like this. Hit us up on social media. Let us know and let's rubber stamp it. Here we go.
[00:09:34] Speaker A: In a world where new music is not easy to find.
[00:09:40] Speaker B: Welcome to new Bets.
[00:09:49] Speaker C: All right, we continue. This is side two. This is let's Get Crazy.
[00:10:01] Speaker B: It's.
Sam.
We've been working hard all week We've been under command We've been trapped in this prison sl.
I think it's time to get out and now it's Friday, 5 o' clock know it's.
Get down to life let's get crazy Let's.
[00:12:00] Speaker A: I like the music. I'm not crazy about the melody. Obviously some VH influence in there. But I think they hold their own. I think it's really well produced. I just wish the melody was a little bit better for me. What do you think?
[00:12:12] Speaker C: I never liked the beginning part. Now I remember what song this is. I don't like the low five thing. Because it doesn't even sound like it's on a rate. I just feel like someone pulled the fader down and it's playing low. It doesn't sound like it's coming out of a transistor radio. Which I assume that's what they wanted to have the sound to be. It just doesn't sound like that. And I never like that. I remember this now. It is Van Halen wannabe, a Van Halen swing groove. But to me it almost sounds more like David Lee Roth on his Edom and Smile.
I don't know. I'm not too into this. This was one of the things maybe that I didn't particularly like because it so wants to be Vanny Allen. And not that he's playing badly or anyone's playing badly. And then his vocals come in and it doesn't match the music.
I'm not too up on his vocals. It's his delivery that he always does. But I don't know if it works with the song.
[00:13:00] Speaker A: Yeah, I think musically, though, I think they're doing really well. And I like the sound of his drums better than Alex Van Halen's drums.
But I think musically that's holding its owns. The melody. That just doesn't do it for me. And the chorus is. There's nothing there in the chorus, obviously. It's just repetition. It's a song, I think that you need to have fun with in the melody. And he's not having fun. It's serious. I mean, if we're gonna compare it, let's say half a teacher, obviously.
I mean, that's a silly song in a sense. His delivery fits. And especially in a song that's called let's Get Crazy. I wish he had more fun with that.
[00:13:36] Speaker C: Yeah, I don't like his delivery in this at all. I think that messes the melody up. He does the weird non rhyming thing again. And the chorus really needs one more line. I think. I was never a big fan of this song. The beginning automatically turned me off. And then when it came in, I was like. I think I like whatever they were doing at the beginning more than I like this. Verse 1. We've been working hard all week We've been under command We've been trapped in this prison cell I think it's time to get out and now it's Friday, 5 o' clock we know it's time to rock so leave all your worries behind and switch into overdrive Chorus. Let's get crazy let's get wild let's get down tonight let's get crazy, let's get wild it's not very up. His vocals are very subdued. I just don't like his voice in this song.
[00:14:16] Speaker A: He sounds depressed.
[00:14:19] Speaker C: He's not even depressed, though. This is what he does. This is his voice. But for this song, it just feels so.
It's a very upbeat, swingy kind of song. And his vocals are just. They bring the whole song down.
[00:14:30] Speaker A: Yeah, he needs to have fun with it. Maybe it'll change. Let's see.
[00:14:33] Speaker C: All right, let's do it. Here we go.
[00:14:50] Speaker B: Back in town and we're on the morning God, we will be back on our job so give it all you got tonight and right here.
Let's get crazy let's get wild let's get down tonight let's get praising let's get wild Sam,
[00:15:59] Speaker A: What'd you think of the solo?
[00:16:00] Speaker C: I thought it was good. I think his playing is good on this. I just wish it wasn't so much of a Van Halen thing, that's all. This is what turned me off. I think back in the day, he plays great. I might have had a less favorable view on him back then, but now I understand that he's a great guitar player. I just think that this is too much for me still.
[00:16:18] Speaker A: Now, if he came to you and said you met him and said, listen, I. I think this is too Van Halen. He said, yeah, I know. It was kind of for that kind of want to do this little tribute thing. I want to do a song like him because I really like him. But you say, okay, or you say, would it make you like it more in that sense if he was doing it as a tribute to a hero, but he wanted to do something that he thought he would do?
[00:16:40] Speaker C: I don't know.
I don't really know. I just think that this thing needs to stay where it needs to stay. And trying to do this without someone from that band. I give Steve Vai a little bit of deference because a the kind of guitar player he has and be almost feeling this is more of a David Lee Roth, Steve Vai version of the thing. And maybe if I think of it that way, it's a little easier to swallow. This is just one of my songs I never really liked. I didn't like the beginning. I didn't like that whole low volume. And this, to me, is just whatever. His playing is great. There's no doubt that he can play in that style and he can do it. I just think the vocal is just not helping it out. It's so Sammy Hagar, really, to the point where I think if it was David Lee Roth, it wouldn't be as to the point. I think it needs a little more of that playful double entendre stuff. And the delivery needs to be a little different this time. He rhymed the four lines and I thought it sounded better. I'm not a big fan of the melody on this, though.
[00:17:34] Speaker A: I'm not sure if it's the melody specifically, but to me it's more the delivery of it. He just needs to have more fun with it. A song called let's Get Crazy with the swing just be up.
[00:17:45] Speaker C: Yeah, I can see that not being favorite thing for you hearing this. I have lots of issues with this, but again, I come around on the plane where back in the day, I wouldn't even came around the plane. I would have heard that riff. I'm like, nope.
[00:17:56] Speaker A: Next.
[00:17:57] Speaker C: Yeah, I probably heard the song once through.
[00:17:59] Speaker A: I do remember this song now.
[00:18:00] Speaker C: Verse 2. We'll tear the town up and burn it down we'll break every rule around we'll show no mercy for the old and weak yeah, the boys are back in town because when Monday morning comes we'll be back on our job so give it all you got tonight and party till the morning light Chorus solo. And now let's finish it out. Here we go.
[00:18:37] Speaker B: Let's get praising let's get wild let's get down tonight let's get crazy.
Let's get crazy let's get wild let's get down tonight let's get crazy, let's go wild let's get crazy, let's get out.
Let's get crazy let's get wild.
Running wild yeah, God play you.
[00:19:47] Speaker A: I think they should have ended with a crazy.
[00:19:51] Speaker C: I didn't like the ending at all. Not a big fan. Let me finish the pre chorus, which is. And now it's Friday, 5 o' clock we know it's time to rock so leave all your worries behind and switch into overdrive why don't you go first lyrically?
[00:20:05] Speaker A: I'll say five on the lyrics, I guess the melody. I want to jump in.
I'm gonna see a three on the melody. Because to me, it's the delivery. It's not necessarily the melody, but what else am I gonna ding it on? Production's good. I thought the production is actually better on. On this one. I'm gonna say seven on production, I'll say six on the music, five on the arrangement. It's okay. What do you think?
[00:20:25] Speaker C: Four lyrics, four melody, six music, four arrangement. Because I don't like that beginning part with the low volume, which is not doing what the intention I assume was, is a transistor radio, and then six on production. I thought it was produced very well. Again, another thing for me where his guitar playing shines through this. I might not be super happy with the style that it's in because I feel it's just too much. I would rather him Put that kind of playing in a different kind of song. But maybe you're right. Maybe this is homage. It's just not up enough. The vocal is not up enough for a song with this title and the kind of swing thing that it is.
[00:21:00] Speaker A: Yeah, agreed. He should have more fun with that. I think if he had more fun with it, it would have been a different tone.
[00:21:06] Speaker C: This is.
Don't say it's over.
[00:21:34] Speaker B: I guess I've seen you cry a thousand times before and if you want to break it up just go out but tell me why you're running out the door Here you go.
There's one for you to know that all I love does that before you say goodbye don't say it's over don't say it's over.
Cause when you run away There ain't no coming back.
[00:22:27] Speaker A: I remember the song. It's catchy. Chorus again, needs more lines, I think. I'm sure it's going to get longer the second time. It's definitely a formula that is in every song. Amazing. It really is. I guess we'd have to really go back and listen to if this is something they do on every record. Sometimes the lyrics. Not that I'm expecting great lyrics, but. And not that they have to rhyme, but sometimes the flow is a little bit odd.
[00:22:49] Speaker C: Do you think it has something to do with him not being from here, that he's from Denmark?
[00:22:54] Speaker A: I don't know. I mean, I don't necessarily think so because think of bands like the Scorpions. I don't think that that's an issue with. With them or other bands that we probably know that were from different places. I mean, Europe. If it is where they had to write these songs in a rush, we'd really have to go back and compare other albums. Re listening to this album, I do remember that sticking in my head where the flow of his words were off when it comes to this music too. Maybe it's just ingrained in our heads where everything rhymes. I'm a guy, like, even when I wrote lyrics, not everything rhymed, but I try to kind of the flow still has to be there. And I feel that's kind of the thing here. The flow with the words at the end are a little bit weird. But I would say this is one of the catchier songs so far. And it's pretty full sounding.
[00:23:38] Speaker C: It's very full sounding. And this is definitely a better song for his vocal style.
It's more of the mid tempo, pseudo ballady, but not really kind of song. So I think his Vocals work better on this.
[00:23:51] Speaker A: The delivery in this song is way better than the one before. He's singing it exactly the way it should be. Be some.
[00:23:56] Speaker C: But his lyrics sometimes are so on point. Yes, there's very little creativity in that. I don't know. Again, maybe it's because it was rushed. I'd have to go back to other stuff besides the hits to say, well, this is what he does. Or he always writes like this. I'm not too sure. I don't remember.
[00:24:10] Speaker A: I don't remember either. I'll be honest with you. I don't remember every song. I do remember this album, the first side, I think, because I kept some of the songs. But all in all, I guess I did. Listen, listen to this record because I'm pretty much remembering a decent amount of it.
[00:24:25] Speaker C: Verse 1. You say goodbye because you can't take no more I guess I've seen you cry a thousand times before and if you want to break it up just go ahead but tell me why you're running out the door Pre chorus and baby if you go there's one thing you should know that all our love must die before you say goodbye Chorus don't say it's over don't say it's over because when you run away there ain't no coming back and I think you are right, the second chorus is going to double that up, which you'll probably sound better.
It's funny though that they do that almost every song.
[00:24:53] Speaker A: Yeah, it needs that extra chorus.
[00:24:56] Speaker C: And if you're going to do it, why every song?
Break it up a little bit. Do a one song, then do it. Don't do it for a couple more. Then maybe do it again. But you do it every song. Every song. Every song starts to grade on you. Even if the chorus is good, it's not long enough. You can't get into the chorus cuz it ends too quick. Let's continue. Here we go.
[00:25:19] Speaker B: Down to give you satisfied and I never lie try to cheat on you but it don't matter what I done for you Cuz you don't know just what you want to do we can't go on this way Live a day, day by day I don't know what to do I guess it's up to you don't say it's over don't say it's over Cuz when you run away there ain't no coming back down don't say it's over Cause when you run away there ain't no coming back.
[00:27:01] Speaker A: What do you Think of that. So that was pretty good.
[00:27:04] Speaker C: Yeah, that's what was very, very, very good. Again, I'm turning around on some of that a little bit. I actually like the pre chorus a lot and has a little fill in the pre chorus. So that was pretty cool too.
[00:27:13] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:27:13] Speaker A: This is one of the better written songs. This is a song you hear and you're like, this could be a hit.
[00:27:17] Speaker C: The only thing I can say about the chorus is when they double it the second time, I wish they would change the last two lines on the second time around. That's all. I'm thinking it's better than it is just once, but I think if you change those two lines the second time, it would just be a little bit better. I know it's super nitpicky, but I think they can do better. Cuz they have done better.
[00:27:34] Speaker A: Yeah, sometimes it's a testament to the bands and what you think of them when we say they've done better and we expect better. If you don't like it or you think everything sucks, you don't expect. You're like, oh, I would want them to do this, but they're not going to do it because they don't do anything right.
[00:27:48] Speaker C: Yeah.
Verse 2. I've always tried to keep you satisfied. I never lied or tried to cheat on you. But it don't matter what I've done for you. Because you don't know just what you want to do. Pre chorus. We can't go on this way. Living day by day. I don't know what to do. I guess it's up to you. Course, twice solo. And then what I'll do is I'll read the post. Solo, bridge, whatever we're going to call this. You told me you never leave me behind. You sold out. You gave up the love that we do. Found. It's very awkward reading that. Hopefully it sounds better when he sings it, but we'll see.
All right, here we go.
[00:28:38] Speaker B: Don't say it's over.
Don't say it's over.
Cause when you run away there ain't no coming back.
Don't say it's over.
Don't say it's over.
Cause when you run away there ain't no coming back. You say it's over. Don't say it's over. Don't say it's over.
Ain't no coming there ain't no coming back.
Don't say it's over.
[00:29:25] Speaker A: I always remember that being a catchy song.
[00:29:28] Speaker C: Yeah, it's super catchy. I'll go first lyrics still not great. I'm going to say four in the lyrics. Melody is a little bit better. Five Music was good. Drums were good. Bass was good. Vocals parts were good, Background vocals were good. I'm going to give that a six. Arrangement six and production six. I think it was better than some of the songs on the front. First side toward the end. I think it's catchy. What do you think?
[00:29:51] Speaker A: Yeah, I'll probably say four in the lyrics. I'll just go six on everything else. Make it easy. I think it's pretty catchy. There's nothing really more to say. I think it's a song that probably could have been a hit. I don't know if it was released as a single or not, but I could picture people sinking along to this.
[00:30:04] Speaker C: The next song is if My Mind Is Evil. Is this the heavy song you were talking about?
[00:30:08] Speaker A: Yeah. I remember this being my favorite song on this and. And then the first song and Little Fighter, which stuck out to me more now than it did before. Even though I remembered it. But it kind of hit me better. I know I mentioned this bit a little last time, but yeah, this was from. I Remember is kind of my favorite song on this one.
[00:30:22] Speaker C: All right, here we go. If My Mind Is Evil.
[00:30:44] Speaker B: Sam.
Holy man on television Read out from the book.
50 million people watching Everywhere you look when you speak of all the sins that that every man has done I wonder where you going when the show is done Lock your door feeling hungry once and more gotta chase it but in my mind to see oh.
And burn my thoughts to ash.
[00:32:17] Speaker A: Yeah, I think it's still a good song. That pre chorus never made any sense to me. I don't know why it's there. I never like that. Lock your door feeling hungry I wish they either went straight to the chorus or. I've never liked that part. I don't understand it. But it doesn't ruin the song for me because I think his vocal delivery here works and I like the riff and I always thought it was a pretty good song.
[00:32:36] Speaker C: I like the riff. It's very docketes.
[00:32:39] Speaker A: Yeah, I was thinking that too. Agreed.
[00:32:40] Speaker C: It does place you in the 80s metal thing though.
[00:32:43] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:32:44] Speaker C: The riff is so 80s metal. I don't think it's bad.
[00:32:47] Speaker A: Well, anytime we got that Chung chun ch ch ch. Right.
[00:32:50] Speaker C: They were doing the chorus thing again. Cuz they're going to double it up again when it comes around.
I don't know, maybe it'll feel better. I didn't like the pre chorus. That was the Part I didn't think didn't even need to be there.
[00:33:00] Speaker A: Yeah, I've never liked it lyrically. It doesn't even make any sense. It's out of a completely different song. That's what it sou like to me,
[00:33:07] Speaker C: this is a very big topic. It seems to be in the 80s, early 90s. The tele evangelist guy. Because Ozzy did a song about it. I'm sure there are other people who have done songs about this.
[00:33:17] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:33:18] Speaker C: It seems like it had to be a very big thing for everyone to write a song about it.
Verse 1 Holy man on television read up from the book 50 million people watching everywhere you look when you speak of all the sins that every man has done I wonder where you're going when the show was done Pre Chorus Lock your door Feeling hungry Want some more, gotta taste it Chorus but if my mind is evil then lock me up below and burn my thoughts to ashes till I won't know Lyrics. A little bit better this time.
[00:33:46] Speaker A: Yeah. Yep.
[00:33:47] Speaker C: All right, let's continue. Here we go.
[00:33:57] Speaker B: Try to reach the inside and change the way I think it seems to me you want to rule all over me why don't you practice whilst you preach and let me be go away, let me be God stay away but if my mind is evil then lock me up below and burn my thoughts to ashes till I won't know but if your mind is evil Then they guess you can know.
[00:35:47] Speaker A: I like that solo. What do you think?
[00:35:48] Speaker C: Yeah, I thought it was good. It fits the the song exactly. I think that's what you want to hear in this kind of a rift based song. I thought it was good.
[00:35:56] Speaker A: Yeah, it's a good song. If that pre chorus didn't have lyrics and they just did that as a little thing in between, then I think that part at least would have been better. But I think the rest of it's really good. It's a strong song. I'm glad I'm liking it now as much as I did then.
[00:36:12] Speaker C: I like the drum part in the pre chorus. I don't actually like the pre chorus. And then the bass was pretty good too. And they changed the chorus up and they did different lines at the end. I thought that was smart. I think that's the way it should be.
[00:36:23] Speaker A: Yep. And I'm glad they're going from the solo to the chorus. They're not doing the pre chorus again.
[00:36:27] Speaker C: Yeah. Yeah. The pre chorus really doesn't need to come back ever. The one thing I can say is that the second verse I'm not really feeling the melody in there. It's a little weirder. And the words are a little weird. He's trying to jam too much stuff together, I think, and makes it a little rough.
[00:36:41] Speaker A: And he also doesn't rhyme the second time.
[00:36:43] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, there's zero rhyme. Oh, there's a rhyme. The last two lines, but.
[00:36:47] Speaker A: Yeah, but not the first one. And you can totally hear it.
[00:36:50] Speaker C: Yeah, it feels wrong.
Usually I don't care if they all rhyme, but in some things, if the melody is not great and it doesn't rhyme, it makes it even worse. If the melody is good and it doesn't rhyme, that might be okay. But whatever's happening in the second verse is not as good as the first verse. Lyric wise or melody wise? Verse 2. You tell me what I should do you want to take control you try to reach me inside and change the way I think it seems to me you want to rule all over me, me why don't you practice what you preach and let me be Pre Chorus Go away, let me be I don't need you Stay away Chorus but if my mind is evil then lock me up below and burn my thoughts to ashes till I won't know. But if your mind is evil then maybe you should go and same as for your crying Cause we all know solo and this is the end of the song. So let's run it out. Here we go.
[00:37:44] Speaker B: And burn my thoughts to ashes till I won't know.
But if your mind is evil Then may the use you go and save us from your crying. Cause we all know.
Yes my mind receive.
Am I evil?
Yes I am.
[00:38:40] Speaker A: I forgot there was a little am I evil yes I am thing at the end. Yeah, it's a good song. I think it's pretty strong and I think it shows that they can get a little bit heavier and not sound cheesy heavy. They can do it well.
[00:38:51] Speaker C: Yeah, I thought everything was good in the song. Why don't you go first?
[00:38:53] Speaker A: I'll say six on the lyrics. I will say six on the melody and seven on everything else. What do you think?
[00:39:00] Speaker C: I think I'll do six on the lyrics. I think I'm gonna do five on the melody because there's a couple of things there that I don't like. I don't like the pre chorus at all. And the second verse is a little weird. But then, yeah, seven on everything else. I thought it was good. It was probably the best song on this side, I think, so far.
[00:39:15] Speaker A: Yeah, it's one of my favorites on the record.
[00:39:17] Speaker C: All right, so here's the COVID This is Radar Love. I always like this version. I remember seeing the video over and over and over and over.
[00:39:25] Speaker A: Yeah, this is pretty big for them.
[00:39:26] Speaker C: It wasn't single. All right, let's do it. Radar Love.
[00:39:53] Speaker B: It.
On our hands where are the wheel?
There's a voice in my head that drives my head and my baby girl says she needs me here this half ass for when I'm shifting gear when she gets lonely I belong too much she said the cable coming in for my body.
[00:41:09] Speaker A: This covers go. This is pretty solid.
[00:41:12] Speaker C: Yeah, it's super solid.
[00:41:13] Speaker A: Doesn't stray really far from the original, but it's an updated version. It's done well, it's produced well. It's a strong song. And I didn't know the original. When I heard this, I knew this was a cover, but I don't think I knew the original. But then I heard the original, like, okay, that's pretty similar.
[00:41:29] Speaker C: Yeah. I don't know if I heard the original back then either, but I heard it since, and it's very close.
They do their own thing. His guitar playing is his own thing, which I like. He's not really copying other stuff. I never noticed those faded in chords that was there, like at the beginning and in between the verses.
[00:41:46] Speaker A: Yep. That's cool.
[00:41:47] Speaker C: I didn't even notice that was there.
[00:41:48] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah.
[00:41:49] Speaker C: The drums are good. His vocals are good on this. Obviously he didn't write the words. The melody of this song is pretty good. It just helps him out. I think his vocal style works with this.
[00:41:59] Speaker A: Yep. Absolutely. It's a good song for them. They picked a good song to do a cover for them. They're good musicians. He has range in his voice. They can do things like this and the song before and do it well.
[00:42:10] Speaker C: I've always liked this. I always thought this was a great song. It's a very good cover. All right, let's continue. Here we go.
[00:42:32] Speaker B: You know, spinning or two. And it's all right When I get lonely and I'm so lining up she says.
We got things that's going right out.
We got eyes on every hair with.
[00:45:04] Speaker A: Great job. The drums sound beautiful. Production on the song is great. I thought his solo was great. And one thing I did notice, and I don't know if you've noticed or paid attention to, because I really haven't. It's just bass and drums. I under the solo. Have you noticed? Has that been a thing where he's not playing rhythm underneath it? He has. Okay.
[00:45:20] Speaker C: I actually think it Sounds better without the rhythm guitar. He's a good enough guitar player that he doesn't need that. Not everybody can do that. That's not a thing. I mean, Eddie Van Halen, generally, in the early stuff, was only him. He had some songs. The farther they got in their career, obviously all the Sammy Hagar stuff, most of that was overdubbed, but he didn't really do a lot of that. They played songs straight through. So this feels like this is almost a straight through song. Whether it was or it wasn't, they put down a really good track regardless.
Drums were awesome. The little drum break and then little breakdown was great. This has always been a favorite of mine. I thought that he did a really, really good job. He's not playing exactly what the other song is, but he's injecting his guitar playing into this song. I think that's why it sounds so good. He's keeping the major things that he needs to keep. And then he uses the places where he thinks he can improvise and do his stuff. And I think that's when songs are good. When people do covers that way, it's not always exact.
[00:46:11] Speaker A: I was thinking I was hearing him play, and I'm like, I doubt the original guitar player was playing with Vito Brado. Please.
[00:46:16] Speaker C: No, I mean, he keeps the major things. I mean, it's very similar when we used to do covers. I tried to keep the major things there and then take a little liberty here and there, depending on the song. If you're playing Sweet Child of Mine, you gotta play that song the way it is. There's very few places in there. You have a little place you can do things, but generally you have to play that thing pretty straight here. I think he's keeping the major places and then using his ability to play within the song and putting his stuff on there. I think it sounds really good.
[00:46:41] Speaker A: Yeah, it's a great cover.
[00:46:42] Speaker C: All right, let's finish it out. Here we go.
[00:46:48] Speaker A: Gotta keep going now Gotta take care
[00:46:52] Speaker B: Man's gotta pass Here I go
[00:46:56] Speaker A: and
[00:46:57] Speaker B: the line of clouds goes down real slow and the radio plays a forgotten song all friendly is coming strong Avenue's man's Sing this song.
When I get lonely and I'm sure.
We got.
We got things that's calling we got light in the sky we got this that's calling out we got things that's all red I love.
[00:48:13] Speaker A: Great cover.
I'm pretty sure I like that one better than the original.
It's updated. It's really what it is. I'm Not a massive fan of the song itself. I like it when they do it, though.
[00:48:24] Speaker C: Yeah, I think it's a great cover. It's one of those covers where they make it their own. I think that's really where it shines. I think I'm gonna have to vote on this. Just because it's so good. I'm gonna make it easy, see. I'm definitely doing sevens across. It's great to be here.
[00:48:39] Speaker B: Thank you.
[00:48:39] Speaker A: It's quintuple 7 just for Nicolo.
[00:48:41] Speaker C: Nikki Titty Baby. What do you think?
[00:48:43] Speaker A: What I'm gonna do is this. I will give it sevens as well. This does not include the lyrics because they didn't write the lyrics, obviously. But everything else, I will give them sevens. Nikki Titty Baby Quintuple 7.
[00:48:55] Speaker C: Yeah, I think it's great. That almost might be the best song on the record.
[00:49:00] Speaker A: It's up there. If you make a playlist of this album, it's on there, without a doubt.
[00:49:04] Speaker C: All right. Alright, we're at the end. This is Cry For Freedom.
[00:49:42] Speaker B: The fires burn we lay our weapons down to rest this war ain't over Till all the people will be free Strength from our hearts we cry this war has stolen lives get for sake of freedom we will die Our sons will carry on oh, like we try we try to keep our dream alive and voices will be heard all around the world so stand up and cry for freedom and keep the dream and I stand up and cry for freedom and keep a dream alive.
[00:51:02] Speaker A: I remember this song as well. Not bad. What do you think?
[00:51:04] Speaker C: I kind of like it. I like the bass and the drums. I thought they're really good. His voice is suited for this kind of song. Again, another big topic, apartheid. Back in the 80s, it was done in pop, it was done in rock, it was done everywhere.
[00:51:17] Speaker A: They've dealt with serious topics throughout their first three albums, for sure. Even on the first one. The second, I mean, obviously when the Children Cry. But the first one, I believe had Cherokee was on there. They had. Oh, God, I can't remember what the other one was. That was a really good song on the first one. This isn't something non typical of them to. To talk about serious. Some serious things in their music.
[00:51:38] Speaker C: No, and that's fine. I think they do a good job at that when they do it. This was a single, but it was only released in the Dutch singles charts in 1990. I went to number 19. Wasn't even released here. Something happened at the end of this record where they were. They weren't releasing Singles here, so I don't know. I don't know what that was.
Verse 1 the fire is burning we lay our weapons down to rest this war ain't over so all the people will be free Straight from our hearts we cry this war has stolen too many lives because for the sake of freedom we will die Our songs will carry on Pre Chorus oh Lord, we try, we try to keep our dream alive and voices will be heard all around the world Chorus so stand up and cry for freedom and keep the dream alive Stand up and cry for freedom and keep the dream alive I thought it was pretty good.
[00:52:23] Speaker A: Yeah, not bad.
[00:52:24] Speaker C: Let's continue it. Here we go.
[00:52:30] Speaker B: Now. Brothers in prison but no crime was ever done I got racism and the shame that face my fellow men the children are taken away and families destroyed and millions have died from starvation we can go on this way oh Lord, we pray we pray that baby soon someday the world will smile again and they shall be released so stand up and cry for freedom and keep the dream alive Stand up and cry for freedom and keep the dream alive Stand up and cry for freedom and keep the dream alive Stand up and cry for freedom and keep our dream alive Sam,
[00:54:46] Speaker A: I wish you had gone down that path a little bit more with the heavy. I forgot about that. It's kind of hoping maybe they did at least a solo in that part.
[00:54:54] Speaker C: Yeah, I was expecting a solo after the riff, but it never happened. The riff was pretty cool. I thought that was an interesting little change up. Even there's little riffs going on behind the chorus. I don't know if you notice those things. They're kind of panning around behind. You got to pay attention the next time it comes around. I never noticed that was there either because I probably didn't listen to this thing in headphones, so I probably never would have heard that.
[00:55:12] Speaker A: Oh yeah, I don't think I've ever listened to this in headphones.
[00:55:14] Speaker C: Yeah, it's an interesting song. It's interesting pieces. I like to drum the bass. They're doing really good. I think it's good. I think it's one of the better songs on the record.
[00:55:21] Speaker A: Yeah, it's pretty good.
[00:55:22] Speaker C: Verse 2 Our brother's in prison but no crime was ever done I call it racism Ashamed I face my fellow man the children are taken away and families destroyed and millions have died from starvation we can't go on this way Pre Chorus oh Lord, we pray, we pray that maybe soon someday the world will smile again and they shall be released and in the chorus three Times, not much rhyming. But since the melody is better, it doesn't really matter as much.
You can have non rhyming as long as the melody is strong and the melody strong here. So it keeps you interested. Interested. And doesn't really show you that the rhyming isn't happening because the melody is very strong.
[00:55:57] Speaker A: Yep. Yeah. Like I said, I don't mind. It doesn't have to rhyme, it just has to flow.
[00:56:00] Speaker C: Yep. All right, let's continue it. Here we go.
[00:56:19] Speaker B: Stand up and cry for freedom and keep the dream alive Stand up and cry for freedom and let her know that we are here oh, no, we can't go on this way and we will never give up finance for freedom yeah and we will keep this dream alive.
Sam.
[00:57:50] Speaker A: When they came back from that fade out, I wish they had kept going with that. I thought they faded it out too quickly. Finally got kind of a soul. And I like the way it sounded with the drums and everything. That would be one critique. Wish that they kept going with it. I know the song is 6 minutes, but didn't really feel 6 minutey. Felt like 5ish. I would have liked that part start to go on.
[00:58:07] Speaker C: I wish the solo part was in the middle. That end part was very U2ish.
Did you notice that Maybe the drum pattern was doing it? I don't know.
[00:58:15] Speaker A: Maybe.
[00:58:16] Speaker C: But I think that really needed to be in the middle and not the end. And again, a long fade that was almost 25 seconds. But he only had a little bit of guitar. And then it just faded out to the. To the bell, which I assume has some significance. I think the arrangement really could have been a little bit better. That's probably going to weigh my scoring down a little bit. Just because I think they had the opportunity to do a couple of things that they didn't do in my. For me, anyway. You want to go first?
[00:58:40] Speaker A: Yeah. I'm just going to go sixes across. When it came back in, it faded out too quickly. Not that the fade was too quick, but it went to the fade too quickly. To me, I think the rest of it was arranged okay. I like that middle part. I could give it a 5 because of the middle part. Wishing that they extended that middle part or the end part more. I'll do five and arrangement six and everything else.
Talked myself into a lower score only because I'm a little bit angry because I really like those parts and I just wish that they kept them longer. What do you think?
[00:59:07] Speaker C: The same thing. Sixes arrangement. The arrangement really is the problem, there are two cool parts there which they don't actually build upon and I think that's a problem. And even at the end could have had that gong or bell going on while the music was happening. He just faded it out too quick and cut half of his stuff off, which was sounding good. Yeah, I'd say this album is probably half filler.
You know, the last three songs on the first side and then the first couple of songs on the second side. The last three songs are pretty strong and the first three songs are pretty strong on the first side.
[00:59:39] Speaker A: I will say this would have made a hell of an ep.
How does that sound?
[00:59:43] Speaker C: It sounds good. I haven't heard this in a long, long, long time. Obviously I did listen to the whole thing. I just didn't remember everything I listened to. But I'm glad we got it because I wanted to get a white line because I wanted to revisit his guitar playing since now have a little bit more mature take on his guitar playing or it was just he's an Eddie Van Halen clone and I don't want to hear that after all the years. I have to admit that he's a really, really good guitar player. Some of the times he put himself in that place to have that criticism on him. Especially the song on the second side which was so wannabe Van Halen. And just that kind of stuff for me is really not what I want to hear. I like the stuff where it's that mid tempo where his voice sounds good and his guitar playing is very melodic. To me that's the stuff I like and I Obviously the COVID was great. Again, the COVID may be the best song. That and Little Fighter to me are probably the two best songs in this record.
[01:00:30] Speaker A: I think my favorites are if My Mind is Evil, the first one in Little Fighter and probably then would come the COVID It is a good cover. Even listening to it now, it's. It's done really well. It's produced really well. It's a good album to get. It's of the era. It features a guitar player who's considered a guitar God. And like you said said it's good for you to be able to listen to someone who you thought was a clone and be able to pick apart. Well, now I see what made him him with pieces of an influence. It'd be one thing if he said no, I don't know who that is or no, he wasn't an influence.
[01:01:05] Speaker C: We've heard people say that too. I've never heard that before in my Life. Led Zeppelin. Who are those guys? I don't know who those guys. What do you think? We don't sound anything like that. What do they sound like?
Yeah, I have changed my tone on him. I just think he's a really, really good guitar player, and you couldn't take him and put him in another band and not know it's him. To me, that's what really sets him apart from a lot of the guitar players. We've heard a lot of 80s stuff on here, and you can see the influence that Van Halen had and how everyone was trying to do that thing, but it just didn't sound original. It sounded very copycat or they all sounded the same way. You could take one guy out of this band, stick it in that band, you wouldn't know it changed. But this I don't think would be the case. If you put another guitar. Guitar player here, you would know. If you took him and put him in another band, you would know. That just shows you that I might have been wrong back in the day.
[01:01:49] Speaker A: And I agree. I think he has enough of a style. Let's say he made a new band. You didn't know it was him. You would hear it and you would say, wow, that either is Vito Brada playing or it's a guy who sounds like Vito Brada.
[01:01:59] Speaker C: Yep.
[01:02:00] Speaker A: Cool. Another one in the books.
[01:02:01] Speaker C: Yep, another one in the books. Why don't you do your thing?
