Now on to the Rock Roulette Podcast. Enjoy.
[00:01:03] Speaker B: Foreign.
[00:01:14] Speaker C: Welcome back to another episode of Rock Roulette Podcast. That's right, the crazy ass podcast that took over 2000 albums, stuck them in a list, stuck them in a wheel. And every other week we spin the wheel. She picks a record for us and we go through it track by track. We talk about the music, the lyrics, the production, the melody and the arrangement and we give it scores. Just a bunch of friends who love music want to do a pod and everyone who takes this trip of discovery and rediscovery, we really want to thank you. Tell us what you like, what you don't like. Suggest an album and a song for the Baby Wheel. We are a trio again tonight. We got Frank.
[00:01:47] Speaker B: My name is Frank.
And I'm sexy.
[00:02:02] Speaker D: Hello everybody.
[00:02:03] Speaker C: We have Mark. Oh hi Mark.
[00:02:04] Speaker A: What's up guys?
[00:02:05] Speaker C: And I'm sad.
Last week the wheel picked another 80s for us. It wasn't a cat related thing but it was a N80s thing. Twisted Sister Come out and play. Not the big one but the follow up to the big one. I thought the first side which we did book ended well. I liked the first song and the last song and to me those were the heaviest ones. The production was pretty raw for those and I think that's what I like. And I think even if you think back to their two big hits, production was not slick. It was pretty raw. And the three songs in the middle to me were a little bit flat. Mark, what's your take on it so far?
[00:02:42] Speaker A: I thought I hated this more than I did. I haven't listened to it in 40 years. Like I said, I didn't think I liked it. Listening back now, it's better than I thought. I still think Stay Hungry is a better record. I think there are better songs on there. But so far, first song and the last song on that side are my favorites. I'm hoping that the second side has a little bit more of that kind of stuff. And maybe the second side will surprise us.
[00:03:01] Speaker C: Just drumming wise has been pretty good. The solos I think overall have been pretty good. Definitely fitting the song. I know we don't know who does what, but whoever it is, I think is doing a pretty good job, wouldn't you say?
[00:03:10] Speaker A: Yeah, I thought the guitar solos were good, Drumming was been good, and even his voice is good. I don't think playing wise was the problem. I just think songs maybe just not as good as Stay Hungry.
[00:03:19] Speaker C: Frank, what's your take so far overall?
[00:03:21] Speaker D: So far, the first two songs I wasn't that crazy about. You want what we got? I like the music. Didn't necessarily like the lyrics on that one. Same thing for I Believe in rock and Roll, but the Fire Still Burns. I thought that was the best one that we heard.
[00:03:33] Speaker C: Dude, you're doing better than I did. I don't remember any of those titles. I have. Look it up and make sure you were right.
I'm not kidding. I remember Leader of the Pack.
I Believe in rock and roll.
[00:03:46] Speaker D: I really like the music on that one. The guitar playing was really solid on that one. Overall, the music was better on that one. The Fire Still Burns was the best lyrics, music. Everything about it was excellent. Hopefully we get a little more of that on side two.
[00:03:58] Speaker C: Yeah, I think we all agree that last one's probably the best one. Before we get to side two, we get to the New Bets and the Baby Wheel.
[00:04:05] Speaker D: In a world where new music is not easy to find.
Welcome to New Bets.
[00:04:23] Speaker A: Okay, here is the new Bets wheel.
[00:04:38] Speaker C: Lost Caverns. Digging a hole.
[00:04:43] Speaker A: I'm not sure about this. I think this is something that someone put on our list.
[00:04:47] Speaker C: Awesome. This proves that I'm not lying. At the beginning of every episode, my reputation is attacked.
[00:04:53] Speaker A: Lost Caverns, they submitted their own song.
[00:04:55] Speaker C: Oh, wow. That's awesome.
[00:04:57] Speaker A: This has been on here for a while. Let's do this.
[00:05:00] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:05:00] Speaker A: All right, Here we go. This is Lost Caverns. Digging a hole.
[00:05:11] Speaker B: Come on.
Digging a hole in my backyard I just can't get out Hands up. Bleeding supple Spoken like for luck can no one hear me say.
A hole in my backyard?
It's big enough for you just to flop over what I left behind Ain't no way I through.
And.
Can I see the song of the yellow crashing moon?
Just kick it out Just kick it out Just kick it out Just kick it out Just kick it out.
[00:07:37] Speaker C: Yeah, it wasn't bad. I thought it was pretty good, actually. Okay. I like the production. What'd you think, Mark?
[00:07:42] Speaker A: Yeah, that was pretty Good. Like a guitar solo. They had a fade. When do you hear phase Now?
[00:07:48] Speaker C: I was just gonna say they gave you a fade.
[00:07:50] Speaker A: Yeah, I mean, you must know. I like it.
[00:07:51] Speaker C: That's pretty cool. It had a little bit of that 90s heaviness too, which was cool. Frank, what'd you think?
[00:07:56] Speaker D: I actually dug it.
I like the drumming on this. Just the overall song was really good. Very. Like you said, very 90s.
[00:08:04] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:08:04] Speaker C: Hey, listen, man, I hope we can bring some attention to this band for putting this on the list. Thank so much. It's nice to know that they put something on the list and we liked it, which is awesome. Check these guys out.
[00:08:14] Speaker D: Where they based out of?
[00:08:15] Speaker C: I think they're from Virginia.
[00:08:17] Speaker D: Virginia?
[00:08:17] Speaker C: I believe so. I think that's what I was seeing.
[00:08:19] Speaker A: If you are a band and you want to get on the new Bets, shoot us out an email on the website, fill out the contact form and let us know. We'd love to have your song on here. I can't guarantee we're going to like it, but at least it's going to get played.
[00:08:30] Speaker D: No, I like that one. That was rocking.
[00:08:32] Speaker A: That one was pretty good.
[00:08:34] Speaker C: Yeah, they're from West Virginia.
[00:08:36] Speaker D: West Virginia.
[00:08:37] Speaker C: Nice.
[00:08:38] Speaker D: Do they come around this way?
[00:08:39] Speaker C: Oh, they have an ep.
Know that from last year. That's what I'm seeing.
[00:08:43] Speaker A: Not.
[00:08:43] Speaker C: Not a ton of stuff online.
[00:08:45] Speaker A: Well, that was pretty good anyway.
[00:08:46] Speaker D: Cool. Yeah, that was great. Loved it.
[00:08:48] Speaker A: Well, if you like it or you don't like it, hit us up on social media. Let's rubber stamp it. Here we go.
[00:08:53] Speaker D: In a world where new music is not easy to find.
Welcome to New Bet.
[00:09:12] Speaker A: Okay, this is the start aside too. This is be cruel to your school. And this features co lead vocals with Alice Cooper. Let's do it. Here we go.
[00:09:26] Speaker B: Be cruel to your school.
Before the article.
In the name of Rocket blow me pull the art school Just like a sister of a brother Be cool to your school in the name of rock and blow well, I don't think I'll make it through another day it's 8 o' clock and all ain't well My brain hurts so much it starts to decay and I'm living in my private hell did somebody tell me this would be so great Be the best thing I ever had I could have never told him about the word exaggerated how something so good could get so bad Come on hey I gotta know am I slow? Where do I go from here to 8? 1, 2, 3 mean that much to me that much to me Be cruel to your School.
Cause you may never get another.
Be pulled to your school in the name of rock and roll Be pulled to your school Just like a sister of a brother Big fool. To your school in the name of rock and roll
[00:10:57] Speaker C: this also has Billy Joel and. And sets was on this one, too.
[00:11:00] Speaker A: Yep.
[00:11:00] Speaker C: Okay. It sounds like something from either Bed out of Hell or Rocky Horror Picture Show.
It's very musical. Esque, I think.
[00:11:08] Speaker A: Yeah. Clarence Clemens is on this, too.
[00:11:10] Speaker C: Yes. Clarence Clemens.
[00:11:11] Speaker D: I was gonna say it's very Rocky Horror.
[00:11:13] Speaker C: Yeah. RIP Tim Curry.
[00:11:15] Speaker D: More like a meatloaf song.
[00:11:17] Speaker A: There's a little bit of meatloaf going on. I didn't think it was bad. It's a very good song for an anthem.
[00:11:23] Speaker C: Yeah. The video apparently was banned. Basically. Like zombies and somebody getting their neck cut off.
[00:11:28] Speaker D: It's very.
[00:11:29] Speaker C: Night of the Living Dead.
[00:11:30] Speaker A: It was released in 1986, so it was the third single that makes sense. If the video got banned in this time, no one was paying attention to it.
[00:11:36] Speaker C: No, because remember, you had said that you thought the singles from the last one had gotten higher. But it was probably more of an MTV thing.
[00:11:43] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:11:43] Speaker C: If they were more of an MTV band. And that's where the popularity came from. They're not being able to show the video doesn't help the song.
[00:11:50] Speaker A: Now, in this day and age or that day and age, you needed mtv. Even if you weren't going to have a mainstream, regular single that's on radio, you needed to have the video because that's really what all the kids were watching. It's not like it didn't mean anything to have the single, but you could have a gigantic video hit. Your actual single didn't go as high as you would think it would be.
[00:12:10] Speaker C: Wasn't it just the anniversary of mtv?
[00:12:12] Speaker A: I don't know.
[00:12:13] Speaker C: I think it was.
[00:12:13] Speaker D: I think it was, too. I do remember reading somewhere that it was coming to an end. We're going to start shutting down mtv, but.
[00:12:20] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, or maybe some of the channels, probably. I wouldn't even know what's out there. I have no idea how many MTVs there are, what they play. August 1st was the anniversary.
[00:12:29] Speaker A: It's been around for a long time.
Yeah. It has no influence anymore on anything
[00:12:34] Speaker C: my daughter was asking me about. I'm like, yeah, I'm older than mtv.
[00:12:40] Speaker A: Starts off with the chorus. BE crew to your school because you may not get another BE Crew to your school in the name of rock and roll BE Crew to your school Just like a sister or a brother Be cruel to your school in the name of rock and roll. Verse one. Well, I don't think I'll make it through another day it's 8 o' clock and all ain't well My brain hurts so much it's starting to decay I'm living in my private hell ver didn't somebody tell me this would be so great? Be the best thing I've ever had? How come it never told me about the word exaggerate? How something so good could get so bad? Bridge. Because, hey, I got to know am I slow? Where I go from here to ABCs and 1, 2, 30s mean that much to me that much to me Me, me, me, me. Back to chorus. I think it's catchy. I think the reason why it probably didn't do as well is because its video was banned in this era.
[00:13:24] Speaker C: Not having a video on MTV does not help at all.
[00:13:27] Speaker A: No, you needed a big video in MTV to help out the actual single. And I thought everyone sounds pretty good. The piano sounds really good from Billy Joel. You would never think that it would be Billy Joel playing on this record if no one told you. And Alice Cooper sounds good. He always sounds good, though. This is right in his wheelhouse.
[00:13:42] Speaker C: Yeah, he's got a distinct voice. He's like, I got schools out. You got be cruel to you Squel.
[00:13:48] Speaker A: Squirrel.
All right, here we go.
[00:13:57] Speaker B: Living dead and they got nothing between their ears I come and don't seem to hear a single word I say they ain't the only one who's born to tears now there must be a better way to educate. Cause this way ain't working like it should Kenzie Johnson bent a pillow Frozen concentrate that makes you smarter and tastes so good.
Come on. Hey. I gotta know what I'll have to show When I hide away from here When I.
Will I have a brain or will I go insane? I'm going to say.
[00:15:01] Speaker C: Think of the guitar part. Very fitting for the song, obviously.
[00:15:04] Speaker A: Brian Setzer does a great job. Clarence Clemens does a great job. There's nothing to complain about that. It fits the song. I don't have much to say. I think all the instruments and everything sounds pretty good.
[00:15:14] Speaker C: This ties in with Leader of the Pack. It's got that 50s vibe, almost. Yeah, 50s, 60s vibe.
[00:15:20] Speaker A: You could also say 70s, though. 70s rock and roll could be that way, too.
[00:15:23] Speaker C: Yeah. This would fit in Greece.
[00:15:25] Speaker A: It could fit in Greece. Yes.
[00:15:27] Speaker C: Whatever era that was supposed to be, this kind of fits in, you know,
[00:15:30] Speaker A: the 50s, I think.
[00:15:31] Speaker C: There you go.
[00:15:32] Speaker D: It's okay. It's not my Thing. But I'm digging it because it has that very show tuned vibe going. Like you said, Rocky Horror meatloaf vibe. So for those reasons, I like it. I think I would have liked it more if this was like a hidden track or bonus track. I just don't know what direction they're trying to go in with this album. Are they just experimenting with different sounds because we had Leader of the pack?
[00:15:54] Speaker C: Yeah, it's definitely a bit over the place. I agree.
[00:15:57] Speaker D: Yeah, it's a little all over the place. We ended side one with a really great rock album and then here we are kicking it off with a musical.
[00:16:04] Speaker A: I think it's more 50s rock and roll, 70s, like rock and roll than it is musical. But I can see the meatloaf connotation possibly. I don't think it's bad. I think maybe this is not what you were expecting. Especially after the last record and the songs that were on there. I think people were more expecting that. Hey, listen, this is their thing. They want to experiment. This is what happens. Sometimes it doesn't hit the mark the way you want it to.
[00:16:25] Speaker C: Yeah, listen, they're allowed to do whatever they want for sure.
Cover lever of the pack. They're the band. Especially coming off that last album, probably a little bit of freedom and they're like, hey, we want to do this. That's cool.
[00:16:34] Speaker A: Verse 3 I see them walking around like the living dead Ain't they got nothing between their ears? How come they don't seem to hear a single word I say? They ain't the only ones who are bored to tear verse 4 now there must be a better way to educate because this way ain't working like it should can't they just invent a pill or frozen concentrate that makes you smarter and taste so good? Bridge because hey, I gotta know what I'll have to show When I hi hi ho from here Will I be in pain or will I have a brain and will I go insane? I've gone and say yeah yeah yay.
Instrumental breakdown Then to the bridge that's coming up right now, which I believe is the first bridge again. And then chorus all the way out. Let's finish it up. Here we go.
[00:17:25] Speaker B: Be cruel to your school Cause you may never get another Be fool to your school in the name of rock and blow Be fooled to your school Just like a sister or brother Be pulled to your school in the name of rock and roll Be pull to your school Cause you may never get another Equal to your school Every name of rock and ro Be.
[00:18:24] Speaker C: Or something.
It is what it is.
[00:18:28] Speaker A: To me, this is very similar to MLY crew having him smoking in the boys room on their record. It's the same kind of a vibe vibe, except Motley Crue made it more of sleazy rock and these guys stayed more into the rock and roll thing.
[00:18:41] Speaker C: Yeah, that's a good cover. Smoking in the boys room. I give him credit for that.
[00:18:45] Speaker A: Yes, it is a very good cover. It's the same idea. It's about your school and about stuff and things that teenagers can associate with what's going on with them. I think that part of it's okay. And I think realistically, all the parts are played very well by everybody.
[00:18:58] Speaker C: Yeah, there's definitely nothing wrong with the musicianship.
[00:19:00] Speaker D: Obviously.
[00:19:01] Speaker C: You got great musicians in there. Guests were created their instruments, I think.
[00:19:05] Speaker A: I don't know what I'm gonna do here. I would like to give it sixes, but I don't think it's better than the Fire Stool burns, which I gave sixes to. I'm probably gonna do fives, except for music. I'll do six. And maybe production. I'll do six because I think it was produced very well. Is it the greatest song in the world? No, But I appreciate the rock and roll aspect. I think that's good. And they got the right people to play all the parts. Anytime you bring Billy Joel and Brian Setzer and Clarence Claremans together on a song. Alice Cooper, his voice fits in this stuff really well. That part of you got to give credit, Frank.
[00:19:34] Speaker D: I think I'm gonna go the same route again. I know what direction they're going with this album. For this song, the music was really good. Actually. I'm gonna give that a 7 for the music part. The lyrics, they're fun. Get those about a five and everything else. I give a six. The lyrics was the only thing I wasn't too crazy about. Again, I'm just gonna take it for what the song is, which is supposed to be a fun 70s kind of style song. It was okay. Sad.
[00:19:57] Speaker C: I'm just gonna do fives across. Was it done well? Yes. Do I appreciate the musicianship? Yes, it was okay. It's like a show tune, which is fine. There are show tunes that I like. I don't know. Just kind of was. Wasn't my thing. Maybe on the second listen I would go a bit higher in certain things. But for now I'm just gonna go fives across.
[00:20:13] Speaker A: Alrighty. Next song. I believe in you.
[00:20:51] Speaker B: Why does no one seem to understand that it's more Than love I. I need it's so hard to keep your faith alive when nobody else feel oh, I need someone there for me need someone who can see me need someone to show me forever made I dare to help me fight if my father set me right Someone left to hold the night Will someone say I believe in you.
I believe in you. You.
I believe in you I believe in you.
[00:22:14] Speaker C: It's funny thinking that Theater Dirks produced this because it reminds me a bit of a Scorpion ballad.
But not as good feeling. I feel that the melody is all over the place. There's three or four different melodies in this that aren't gelling. At least not upon first lesson. Maybe the second lesson I'll gel a little bit more. I'm not completely judging it yet, but as of right now, I'm just not feeling it.
[00:22:37] Speaker A: It's not as good as a Scorpion's ballad, but I definitely can hear the Scorpion s parts in here. I'm surprised they're doing a ballad. Tell you the truth, I don't think of Twisted Sisters. A ballad band. It's a little strange for me to have a ballad.
[00:22:49] Speaker C: What was that song on the last one? Wasn't there a slow song?
[00:22:52] Speaker A: I'm sure it was slow, but this feels really ballady.
It's not mid tempo by any stretch.
[00:22:58] Speaker C: Oh no.
[00:22:58] Speaker A: I just don't know what to take of this. It's not bad. I don't think it's horrible. They're definitely using some things that the Scorpions use. It really does sound like that. I wasn't sure until you said it. I was thinking to myself, yeah, that's really true. It is very Scorpionish.
[00:23:12] Speaker C: Even his vocal delivery is a bit clauster mine.
He doesn't say a Wii, but at least I haven't heard that yet.
[00:23:19] Speaker D: Again, I'm just very confused. How do you follow up with this song after we just heard?
Again, for me, it's all over the place. It sound a Scorpion. First impression. I'm not digging it.
[00:23:30] Speaker A: Verse 1. Why does no one seem to understand that it's more than love I need it's so hard to keep your faith alive when no one else believes oh, I need someone there for me need someone who can see need someone to show me oh that they are there to help me fight if I fall to set me right Someone there to hold the light Won't someone say I believe in you I believe in you I believe in you I believe in you there's those little high parts in the I believe in you at least Broke it up a little bit. It's not just a repetitive line over and over again. This could be a song you may need to listen to a bunch of times before you get it.
[00:24:01] Speaker C: I mean, the sentiment is nice.
[00:24:03] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:24:03] Speaker A: And I don't think his lyrics are bad, generally.
[00:24:06] Speaker C: No, they're not terrible.
[00:24:07] Speaker A: He doesn't take the shortcut. TNA lyrics. He usually has some kind of substance. It feels, at least from the last side to this side, there's always something really going on. Whether it's an empowerment of, you want what we got. It's very Kiss ish. We're all together as one kind of thing.
Or, hey, school. School's bad, man. In the last one, in this one.
All right, let's continue. Here we go.
[00:24:52] Speaker B: A child's tears soon become stone oh, why does no one lend a hand why does no one understand why I need to make a stand oh, wow.
It's so hard to carry on when know your help is gone all your dreams have come undone I mean, they're here. I believe in you.
I believe in you.
I believe in you I believe believe in you.
[00:26:21] Speaker C: Solo's good. Good breakdown. It did gel a little bit more for me the second time around. Am I liking it? I think it's okay. I'll be honest with you. When it came to balance in the hair metal era, I like that hook.
It's missing that hook, which doesn't make it a bad song. I'm not saying. Not saying everything had to be not uplifting, but that really catchy chorus thing. It sounds like a ballad that they would do based on what I'm hearing here. What'd you think of the solo?
[00:26:46] Speaker A: I like the harmonized guitar. I'm usually not a big harmonized guitar guy, but in this situation, I think it worked out well. I think it worked good for the solo. I didn't think it was bad. And the bass was doing pretty cool stuff during the verses. I didn't notice that the first time around.
[00:26:58] Speaker C: I wasn't paying attention because we talked about. I didn't really hear a lot of bass throughout this record. In terms of standing out.
[00:27:03] Speaker A: Yeah, he had a pretty good bass parts. Maybe if it comes back around again, you may hear a little bit of that. It was actually pretty good. I thought he did a really good job. And the drums surprisingly been good. I don't know why I'm saying surprisingly, because I don't think A.J. perry was a bad drummer whatsoever.
[00:27:15] Speaker C: No, drums have been good. Overall, the musicianship has been good. I think solos have really been on point drumming is. Is good. He's. He's not straightforward. Even in this, the ballad, he's definitely giving some accents and fills and things like that that are standing out instead of just going straight forward. I definitely appreciate, appreciate the musicianship. Frank, has this song grown on you at all?
[00:27:34] Speaker D: It is starting to grow on me. Not your typical 80s hair metal love ballad is growing on me. And. And like the two of you pointed out, the music has been really good at many of these songs. Here we have another example of that.
[00:27:47] Speaker A: Verse 2. It's so hard to do it all yourself Fighting for your dreams alone when the toys upon the highest shelf A child's tears soon become stone or why does no one lend a hand why does no one understand why need to make a stand oh, it's hard to carry on when all your hope is gone all your dreams have come undone I need to hear I believe in you four times solo and let's see what happens. Here we go.
[00:28:26] Speaker B: Must they always go on hurt?
Oh, wow.
If someone meet every night I be there to help them find if they.
Believe in you.
I believe in you.
I believe in you I believe in you.
I believe in you you.
I believe in you.
Someone say I believe in you.
[00:29:50] Speaker C: Slight fade on the guitar note. Yeah, it got better as it progressed. It's not my favorite. I like it better than the one before.
[00:29:57] Speaker A: Dr. Guitar at the end was pretty good too.
I have nothing bad to say about the musicianship. I had a preconceived notion about this whole record in my head is I didn't think. I really liked it coming back at me that maybe it wasn't as bad as I gave it back in the day.
[00:30:11] Speaker C: It happens. Especially when you hear one record, you really like it, and then you put the next one. It just doesn't live up to what you felt then. In that moment, you really have no choice but to compare it to something that you really like. Any band, any album by a band that you like. And sometimes you think it's worth going back to, and sometimes you don't. You know what it is, Mark? Sometimes you gotta wait 40 years. Do a podcast wafer technology analogy to catch up. And then you re listen to an album. That's what it is.
[00:30:35] Speaker A: This is very true.
[00:30:36] Speaker C: That's what you were waiting for. You didn't know you predicted a podcast.
[00:30:40] Speaker A: Yeah, I really thought. I didn't like this that much. I'm not saying this is better than the last record by any stretch, but it's not as bad as I thought. It was should have may have done better than 500000 copies probably. But I couldn't have been the only one thinking the same way. Again, you don't have the really two big things there. And I think that. That for a lot of people maybe is the reason why they don't like this as much as the prior one. I like a bunch of song other album that weren't the hits as well. There's really not a lot to hate here. If you think about it. It's Twisted Sister. It sounds like them. They're doing the things that they do. Verse 3. Why won't someone say these words? Are they really so absurd? Must they always go unheard? Or if someone needed the light I'd be there to help them fight if they fell I'd set them right and then I'd say I believe in you all the way out Again, even those words right here were pretty good. I didn't think it was bad. Frank, go first.
[00:31:29] Speaker D: The song definitely did grow on me as it went along. I'm gonna give music a set seven. The lyrics, they're okay. I give that a six, actually. I give it a six across the board for everything else. But the music really stood out to me Again as. As we said a couple times, very scorpion in the beginning. Just not as good, I guess we could say. But. But overall it stands on its own. So I like it.
[00:31:48] Speaker A: Mark, again, a hard thing because I don't think it's still better than the Fire Still Burns and I gave that sixes across. I think what I'm going to do is I'm going to do six in the lyrics, five on the melody, six, six on the music, five on arrangement and six on production. It's very close, but I still haven't found a song that I'd like better than the Fire Still Burns. Saf.
[00:32:09] Speaker C: Yep. Five on melody, arrangement. Yeah, let's say five and arrangement on six and everything else. I think I'm matching your scores exactly. I mean it did. It did grow. I could. I could go back and possibly like this one more because it did grow on me. It's a ballad that I expect from that without a doubt.
[00:32:24] Speaker A: Yeah. His voice isn't really made for soupy, syrupy mid-80s ballads. This is the kind of ballad you're going to get from Twisted Sister. Just because his voice doesn't lend itself to do anything else.
[00:32:33] Speaker C: Nor did the look.
[00:32:35] Speaker A: Yeah, the look too.
[00:32:37] Speaker C: Imagine de Snider singing Every Rose Has Its Thorn.
[00:32:40] Speaker A: Oh boy.
Yeah, that'd be interesting. Someone should do that. AI, get on it. Okay, next one. Out on the streets.
[00:33:02] Speaker B: I walk alone who sleep is nice I'm just another number Something just ain't right.
Searching for something in this human zoo.
Kaleidoscope of faces maybe, maybe it might be you.
I feel like I lost my way.
Things get darker every day down outside.
You're out on the streets.
Living on your blood.
You're out on the streets so far from home.
When you're out on the streets, you can't understand what's going on.
You're out on the streets, you're hot. Your lonely home.
[00:34:20] Speaker C: This reminds me of early Great White and early Dawkin. It's not bad. It's not gelling. Like, I keep saying this with almost every song, but it feels that way. Not to be repetitive. It's not completely gelling, but it's not bad. But kind of want to see if it sinks in a little bit more. I do like the fact that it's a little bit heavier than what we've gotten on this side, which would I was really waiting for because that's what I really appreciated on the first side was the stuff that was heavy, the stuff that the book ended, the first song. So I'm happy that it's gotten to that place again.
[00:34:49] Speaker A: I'm not too sure about the melody. I think that's really the only thing. I like the ideas. I like the lyrics. Music's not bad. We got a bass all by itself that was different.
[00:35:00] Speaker C: Yep. I'm a sucker for that.
But, yeah, the melody. I didn't mean to mention. I'm not too sure about the melody.
[00:35:06] Speaker A: Again, I'm not saying it's bad. I just don't know if I need a little more time with it. Right off the hop, it feels a little disjointed, but maybe that'll get better after the first verse.
[00:35:15] Speaker D: It's funny you say that it sounds a little bit like Duncan because Duncan released their album same day.
[00:35:20] Speaker C: Did they? Which one? Tooth and Nail?
[00:35:22] Speaker D: No, Under Lock and Key.
[00:35:23] Speaker C: Oh, Under Lock and Key.
[00:35:26] Speaker D: Because I was curious as, like, why would it not sell more than 500,000 copies? And it looks like November was pretty busy. Yeah. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. You had Faith no More was in there.
[00:35:37] Speaker C: Faith no More? That's what it says.
[00:35:39] Speaker D: Yeah. Faith no More, actually. Seth. Yep. Faith no More came out. We Care a lot. That was the name of the album. You have a couple of them. Green river, the WWF album came out.
[00:35:49] Speaker B: Remember that one?
[00:35:49] Speaker C: Oh, God, yeah, I do, actually.
[00:35:51] Speaker D: That explained but yeah, it's a slow burn. I feeling that so far. These, these last two that at first listen, you're not digging it, but as it progressed, you're like, all right, it's not that bad. I'm digging it now. That's where I'm at.
[00:36:02] Speaker A: Verse 1. I walk alone through the sleepless nights I'm just another number something just ain't right. Searching for something in this human zoo Kaleidoscope of faces maybe it might be you I feel like I lost my way Things get darker every day that I stay. Chorus. You're out on the streets living on your own. You're out on the streets so far from home home. When you're out on the streets, you can't understand what's going on. You're out in the streets your heart's your only home. Again, not too bad lyrics.
[00:36:26] Speaker C: You know, Holy faith no more is older than what I thought they were. You ever get lost between the 90s and 2000s? Has that ever happened when you could swear a band was later and then you look at like, oh, my God, that's how old this is. I mean, they formed in 79, which I never would have known, but I don't know why I thought that they were later 90s and they weren't. Not even, dude, the real thing, which was like their big whatever, was 89.
[00:36:50] Speaker A: Was it 89?
[00:36:51] Speaker C: Yes. Epic was released in 1990, but the album came out in 89.
Holy. That's why, Frank, when you're, like, faithful more, I was like, wait. Fate no more.
[00:37:00] Speaker D: No.
[00:37:02] Speaker A: Yeah, it happens.
[00:37:03] Speaker C: Damn.
[00:37:03] Speaker A: There you go. The Faith no More segment in our Twisted Sister album review.
[00:37:07] Speaker C: Absolutely.
That's us.
[00:37:09] Speaker A: All right, here we go. Let's continue.
[00:37:14] Speaker B: The minded wonder through shattered dreams.
Hours passing seconds in my heart it screams I can't find my best I f back all my tears because there ain't no turning back.
Minutes, minutes turn, turn New years.
Someone listen to my pray.
Can't help feeling no one cares no one dares. You're out on the street living on your love.
You're out on the streets so far from home.
When you're out on the streets, you can't understand what's going on.
You're out on the streets. Your house, your only home.
[00:38:47] Speaker C: I feel that solo should have been longer. I felt cut off, and especially in a song like this, I think you need a little bit of a longer solo. I thought what they did was fine.
[00:38:55] Speaker A: Yeah, I don't think it was bad. It was a little short, but I thought it was played well. Again, I don't have any issue with any of the solos here or the musicianship in general. I think it's pretty spot on. I'm still not too sure about the melody here. There are parts of it that I like and parts that I don't like. Other than that, so far it's, you know, I think it's a middle of the road song.
[00:39:11] Speaker C: Yeah, like the one before. It grew me a little bit more. The melody didn't bother me as much. Like you said, it's mid high mid.
That's worked.
[00:39:20] Speaker D: I'm digging it. I think the solo could have been longer too, but it's fine as is. I think this is one of the first songs outside of the last one on side one where I dug it from the opening. Like it?
[00:39:31] Speaker A: Verse 2. The minded wanders through shattered dreams Hours pass in seconds and my hearted screams I can't fight the past I force back all of my tears because there ain't no turning back back minutes, minutes turn to years Someone listen to my prayers can't help feeling no one cares, no one dares. Chorus solo and now let's run it out. Here we go.
[00:39:53] Speaker B: Maybe there's a place for me is my dream to be free Fc you loud I on the streets living on your own you're out on the streets so far from home.
When you're out on the streets you can't understand what's going on you're out on the streets your heart you're on holy.
You're living in your house you're out on the street so far, so far from.
When you're out on the street I can't understand what's going on you're out on the street Radio.
[00:41:10] Speaker D: Not bad.
[00:41:11] Speaker C: Not much more to say really.
[00:41:12] Speaker A: No, it's decent. I have one more line to read. Maybe there's a place for me is dreaming to be free. Fantasy Saf go first.
[00:41:19] Speaker C: I think I'm going to do the same as the last one. Five on melody, five on arrangement, six on everything else. I think the melody grew on me. I was almost was about to give it a six, so I'm not sure. I think I do like this one a little bit better than the one before. Mark.
[00:41:34] Speaker A: Yep, same thing. I'm not too sure about the melody. There are parts that I like and parts that I don't like, but I feel it's very on par with the last song as far as how I feel. Maybe a little bit better. It does have a docking feel that I noticed in the verses, I'm not saying they copied Dawkin whatsoever, because they were around before Dawkin.
[00:41:50] Speaker C: No, it was the era. It was that era. And, I mean, the production is kind of along. I mean, it does remind me of, like, tooth and nail, the production. I think they were just contemporaries.
[00:41:58] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:41:59] Speaker D: Frank, I'm going to give the melody A6, the lyrics A6 and 7 across. For everything else. This is one of the songs that I liked from the moment it started for the era. Like Savino said, very Dunkin sounding, so dug it.
[00:42:11] Speaker A: All right, next up, looking out for number one.
[00:42:31] Speaker B: They always told me I must try to be like everyone in the nation.
Go with the flow, remember me is we.
There must be no deviation where now I think that I'll go my own way.
I've got my own point of view.
I just don't care what other people say.
I do what I want to do. You know that I'm ready.
I'm ready to ride.
You know that I'm ready?
I'm ready to ride?
Gonna ride.
I'm looking out for number one.
I'm looking out for number one.
I'm looking out for number one.
I'm looking out for number one.
[00:43:30] Speaker C: I like the vibe a bit. It's still in that heavier realm. The melody isn't syncing with me, and this doesn't feel like one that will grow on me. I don't think it's terrible. I just. Just don't think it's in the same league as the one before.
[00:43:41] Speaker A: It feels a little like filler. I don't know about the chorus, the repeating over and over. I wish they would have changed some lines in between, maybe do. I'm looking after number one. Number one. Then something else. Number one. I just think it would be nice, a little bit of a change. Melody's okay. I'm not too sure about it yet. I like the idea of the song. Everyone's saying, go this way. Do what I say. There's no deviation. Well, I'm gonna do whatever I want and I don't care. That's pretty cool. Cool, too. But, yeah, I think it's a little bit of a filler song.
[00:44:07] Speaker D: So this is gonna be one of those songs where the music is gonna probably sound really good the rest of the way. The lyrics and melody gonna bring it down.
[00:44:15] Speaker A: Speaking of lyrics, verse 1. They always told me I must try to be like everyone in the nation. Go with the flow, remember me is we. There must be no deviation. Well, now I think that I'll go my own way? I've got my own point of view? I just don't care what other people say? Do what I want to do? You know that I'm ready? I'm ready to rock? You know that I'm ready? I'm ready to rock? Rock, gonna rock. I'm looking out for number one, number one. Four times. I like to chant. That's my favorite part of the actual whole song, I think, is the chant part in the actual chorus.
[00:44:44] Speaker C: It's like a quizzing. Number one. Bad boy number one. Number one, number one. What's the number one? Bad boy number one.
[00:44:49] Speaker A: I just don't know where the I'm ready to rock. Why does that have to even be there with the other lyric?
[00:44:55] Speaker C: Yeah, it sounds a bit disjointed, but
[00:44:58] Speaker A: maybe he wanted to get the rock in there, so that's what he did. Does he continue that way? Let's play it and see.
[00:45:06] Speaker B: Make a stand?
You got to do things your own way?
Forget about the style, forget the brand?
Cause every dog has his own day?
It doesn't matter what the others think?
What couches do you like? You.
You think you're drowning but you'll never sink?
Just do what you want to do?
You better get ready, get ready to rock?
You better get ready?
Get ready to rock?
Gotta rock.
[00:46:11] Speaker C: Yeah, that was good. Gave him a little bit more room. I think I like that one better than the one with D. That was my favorite part of the song.
[00:46:17] Speaker A: Yeah, it's pretty decent. I think the solos have been good. I think it fit exactly what it is. I don't think it was bad.
[00:46:21] Speaker D: Like Mark said, the solos have been really spot on. The guitar playing throughout the entire album has. Are really good, even though sometimes the songs weren't that great. Yeah, D, that's solid solo here.
[00:46:30] Speaker C: Mark, from a guitar standpoint, where do they rank in terms of reputation?
[00:46:36] Speaker A: I never really looked at them as being anything that I would take as being influential. Me, other people might have other ideas, and maybe they think that that's an influential two guitar player thing. To me. It was always a little hokey, especially on the last record on the big songs. I never thought that those solos were great. Even though the song was great. It felt a little, I don't know. I hate to say non technical because there is some technicality of some sort in there. I just never really took it as those guitar players, for me, would be any kind of influence on my guitar playing. I can't say that for everybody else. I can only say about me in
[00:47:09] Speaker C: terms of their actual reputation in general. Are there somebody that people spoke about, didn't speak about?
[00:47:14] Speaker A: I don't remember anyone saying very much about them from people that I knew. Eddie Ojita, maybe a little bit more than JJ French, But I don't think anyone took them as being horribly bad or horribly great. I think they were good for their songs and what they. They did. I don't know if other people have a different viewpoint about that. I don't remember hearing very much about them as guitar players. Obviously, they could play guitar and most of the time it's for the song. There's not a lot of super wankery going on. If there's some fast stuff, that's fine, but I think it always complements the actual song. I have to also say that the stuff in the verses was pretty interesting too, even though it's sort of cliche with a whammy bar and some other stuff. But I didn't think it was bad. I thought it fit the song. And I think that's really the overarching, arching thing about the guitar playing here is it fits the song all the time. They're playing for the song, as opposed to some of the stuff on the last record we did where there was a little bit of wankery, just for wankery sake. You don't get a lot of that here.
[00:48:05] Speaker C: No, I was gonna say I don't feel that here. I feel that what's being done is definitely done for the song. And they've been good.
[00:48:10] Speaker A: Yeah. I have no complaint. Verse 2. The time has come for you to make a stand. You got to do things your own way. Forget about the style, forget the brand. Because every dog has its own day. It doesn't matter what the others think. What counts is do you like you? You think you're drowning but you're never sink. Just want to do. You better get ready, get ready to rock. You better get ready, get ready to rock. Got a rock into the solo, and now we're coming out of it pretty much into the solo. Pre chorus. Chorus, let's finish it up. Here we go.
[00:48:40] Speaker B: You know that we're ready?
We're ready to rock.
You know that we're ready well, ready to rock.
Got to rock.
We're looking out for number one. Number one. We're looking out for number one. Number one. We're looking out for number one. Number one. We're looking out for Number one. Number one. We're Looking out for number one. Number one. We're looking out for number one.
Number one, we're looking out for number one dot number one, we're looking out for Al.
[00:49:27] Speaker C: I was about to do a little cha cha. He did the F or B. I was expecting something there at the end.
[00:49:34] Speaker A: No, I wasn't expecting that little breakdown. I didn't think that was going to happen.
[00:49:37] Speaker C: Like you said, it's like an anthem thing. It feels like to take a picture of them doing that live, maybe.
[00:49:42] Speaker A: Yeah. It's probably a good live song, I would think. Everyone gets to chant number one.
[00:49:46] Speaker C: Done.
[00:49:47] Speaker A: I'll go first. I'm gonna do fives. Except for the music. I'm gonna do six. I think it's a middle kind of song. It's a little bit of a fluff. Musicianship was good. Even on this whole record. Drums have been really good. There's been some beats. I went. Where the did that come from? I don't expect that from Twist. This. This there. I don't listen to them enough to know AJ Power was a pretty good drummer.
[00:50:06] Speaker C: Yeah, he's doing a good job. Even if you think about we're not going to take it. It's not just a simple.
It's not. It's like even that when you listen to it. So it's a cool drum beat with the cowbell.
[00:50:17] Speaker A: Yeah. And he's done a lot of good stuff here.
[00:50:19] Speaker C: Yeah. I give him credit. Definitely been enjoying the drumming.
[00:50:22] Speaker A: Frank.
[00:50:22] Speaker D: I'm gonna give the music on this one a six. And then I didn't like it at all. I'm gonna give four for the lyrics, the melody. I'll give a six for the production. It just wasn't for me.
Sad.
[00:50:35] Speaker C: Yeah. I'm debating.
[00:50:36] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:50:36] Speaker C: I might do four in the lyrics, five in the melody, and maybe five on everything else. It's okay.
[00:50:41] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:50:41] Speaker C: And I'm glad that it's still in that heavier vein and it could grow on me going back to it. But this wasn't one like the two before, where the more I listen to it, the more gel for me. This one is kind of another filler for me.
[00:50:53] Speaker A: All right, the next one up.
[00:50:54] Speaker B: Kill or be killed.
Evil's coming Fight for fire Push has come to shove let's all pray we need the help of death from up above we must fight we won't surrender the king will never change hold the lion bales so contender the outcome for your rage it's kill or be killed Live or die Kill or be killed no, you don't know why it's kill or be killed Kill or be killed
[00:51:55] Speaker C: I think this is the Best one since the Fight Fire one, which I don't remember fully the title. I think this one gels for me. And the other thing I want to say, Mark, that riff, if you slow it down, is it 10 seconds to love?
[00:52:07] Speaker A: Yeah, it sounds like 10 seconds a lot. I don't know if it's in the same key or not.
[00:52:11] Speaker C: It's like, maybe not exactly, but it kind of reminds me. This is definitely my favorite song since the first side.
[00:52:18] Speaker A: Totally agree. This is what I think of when I think of Twisted Sister and stuff that I like. This is definitely the best song since the Fire Still Burns. I thought it was good so far.
[00:52:27] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:52:28] Speaker D: I wish this album was arranged differently. Differently where you put these better tracks in the front on side one. And I think you would have had a better selling record. So there's some really good songs. They just kind of scatter throughout the whole Hummel.
[00:52:39] Speaker C: It is a bit odd. Who knows? I don't know.
Going into this record, it's weird. You feel that some of the things that are possibly trying to be hits, but then you have stuff like this, which I think is their wheelhouse. I think that they're good in this space. These are the songs that I like where I'm like, hey, I've heard a lot of people talk about Twisted Sister and liking them and whatever. I tried listening to something. I'll be honest to you, I don't know which one it was. It didn't necessarily stick. But just listening to this, to me, the three heaviest songs are the best song. Not that the scores have been bad.
[00:53:08] Speaker A: This is their wheelhouse. Like you said, this is where they live. And I think these are the songs that people like. If you want to hear Twisted Sister, this is the type of song you want to listen to. Verse 1 Evil's coming fight the fire pushes come to shove let's all pray we need the help from the debt from up above we must fight we won't surrender the king will never change hold the line there's no contender the outcomes Prearranged Chorus it's killer Be killed Live or let die Kill or be killed Though you don't know why it's killer be killed Rock or let roll Kill or be killed Burn or save your soul all righty, let's continue. Verse 2.
[00:53:53] Speaker B: Choose your weapon this war started long before you came Fight's a good fight let's be sure they'll never rise again it's kill or be killed Little die kill on be killed no, you don't know why Kill will be killed Rock the leper.
Kill will be killed.
[00:54:42] Speaker C: Was it me who was that incredibly low in the mix mix? And only on one side, on the right side. Because I thought what's gonna happen is. And maybe it's just the way it's coming through my headphones that there was going to be one solo on the right side. I was like, okay, that's what I'm hearing. Then the other solo is going to come in on the left side. Unless I'm wrong. That's what I heard. A very low mix, which. A solo, which I thought was actually pretty good. Only on the right side.
[00:55:03] Speaker A: Yeah, I heard it on the right side as well. I thought it was pretty good, though. Again, fits the song. Yeah.
[00:55:07] Speaker C: I just felt so low in the mix. I'm surprised. I would have loved to hear that louder. Now we're was really good. If it's a song perfectly.
[00:55:14] Speaker A: Sometimes you can't understand why those things happen.
[00:55:16] Speaker C: Damn it, Deer God. Damn it, Frank. You still digging it?
[00:55:20] Speaker D: Oh, yeah. This is Twisted Sister. This is what I paid to see this is what I want to hear. When you think about Twisted Sister, this is the song that comes to mind. Sure.
[00:55:29] Speaker A: This is prototypical Twisted Sister. I think that's why we all like it, because we want to hear this kind of stuff more. Verse 2 Death is certain there's no question Life's not quite what you see Pick your path and make decisions for eternity choose your Use your weapons this war started long before you came Fight the good fight let's be sure they'll never rise again Chorus solo Then there's a bridge that's coming up which is don't sleep in the fire. Have faith and desire and fight for your life and be free I like to send him in this song too. Again, I think lyric wise, he does a really good job. Even if I don't like the melody all the time. Generally the lyrics have been pretty decent.
[00:56:02] Speaker C: This gives me an 80s horror vibe story. That's what I'm picturing here. I'm picturing a band, Phantasm slash Hellraiser.
I kind of like that vibe.
[00:56:12] Speaker A: Yeah. The vibe in this song is very good.
[00:56:14] Speaker C: Very metal.
[00:56:16] Speaker A: Put the horns up. All right, let's play it out. Here we go.
[00:56:33] Speaker B: You be killed Though you don't know why it will be killed Killed.
[00:57:06] Speaker C: Wasn't expecting that. That was kind of cool. I would have liked a little. So, like a little delay on the song. That's pretty cool. Again, drumming was really solid. He's doing some really cool stuff. There.
[00:57:15] Speaker A: Yeah, everything's in pretty good. Why don't you go first?
[00:57:17] Speaker C: I will say seven on the music, six on everything else. I think that's fair. I wasn't sure if I was gonna give seven to something else, but I think that's wrong enough to. I'm going to stay. I mean, to me, it's the strongest one since the first side, right?
[00:57:30] Speaker D: I'm going sevens across. This is Twisted Sister to me. This is what. Whenever I think of the group, this is the type of song that comes immediately to mind. And I'm really glad that we got it.
[00:57:39] Speaker C: So listen up, SMFs.
[00:57:40] Speaker A: That's right, you heard me. Now turn it up, you beautiful freaks.
[00:57:44] Speaker C: It's Quintuple seven Nikki titty baby. I was thinking. Does he have a D? Schneider?
[00:57:51] Speaker A: I'm going to do sevens across as well. I think it's probably my favorite song now.
[00:57:55] Speaker C: Quintuple. Quintuple seven Nikki Titty, baby. Wait, quintuple means five, right? So that's 35 Nikki Titty babies. Man, I gotta lie down.
[00:58:07] Speaker A: All righty, we're at the end.
[00:58:09] Speaker D: All right.
[00:58:10] Speaker A: Don't be so excited.
[00:58:14] Speaker C: Frank said this is good, but I'm tired.
[00:58:17] Speaker D: Oh, I'm not muted, Damn it.
[00:58:21] Speaker A: Well, just for you, this is a 6 minute and 26 seconds long.
[00:58:25] Speaker D: Yes. Oh, Jesus.
[00:58:26] Speaker C: That's how you end it, baby.
[00:58:28] Speaker A: Yeah. King of the Fools.
[00:58:53] Speaker B: Sat.
How can I lead? How can I rule?
What kind of kingdom?
No crown or castle.
I don't have silver gold.
Yet I'm looking.
And I can't help believing the world is on my side no, I can't help believing in my heart But I can't stop this feeling that I should run and hide so before I I'll sit and wonder why oh, I wonder why.
I'm the king of.
[01:01:13] Speaker C: This song isn't bad. I think it has that Scorpions vibe as well. And it's funny that Theater Dir produced Love it for St. Savage and Be those both end in ballads as well. I don't know if he produced some of A Forward Blackout, which I think also one's on a ballad. That's not uncommon common for him to do something like that. It's not bad. I think I like it better than the other ballad.
[01:01:32] Speaker A: I definitely like it better than the other ballad. I'm trying to figure out what the lyrics are saying from what I can gather just by looking at it. Is he talking that the fans are the fools and he's the king of the fools? I'm just confused.
[01:01:43] Speaker C: The Vibe I got was almost as if don't look to me. They're looking to me to be the king But I'm a king of fools Kind of. I don't deserve. Ah, that's kind of the vibe that I'm getting. I could be wrong.
[01:01:55] Speaker A: That makes way more sense than my idea.
I kind of like this, though.
[01:02:00] Speaker C: Yeah, it's not bad.
[01:02:03] Speaker D: I wish the album would have ended on something a little bit different. To me, it's just a little too long. Slow song.
[01:02:09] Speaker A: If you listen to it on lp, it ended on Killer Be Killed. If you had the cassette or the cd, you got this song. Just get the album, Frank, and you can end on Killer Be Killed, and you don't have to worry about it.
[01:02:19] Speaker D: There you go. Thank you.
[01:02:21] Speaker C: I'm assuming at this point they reissued it. They probably put it on there.
[01:02:24] Speaker A: Probably. I'm sure. Verse 1 Look around me all I see Thousands of faces wanting me how can I lead, how can I rule When I'm the king of the fools? Verse 2 what kind of kingdom has no throne no crown or castle do I own? I don't have silver, gold or jewels Yet I'm the king King of fools Pre Chorus and I can't help believing the world is on my side no, I can't help believing in my heart But I can't stop this feeling that I should run and hide so before I die sit and wonder why oh, I wonder why Chorus King of the fools who will face the world defiantly King of the fools Understanding less than me King of the fools I'm the king King of the fools I like your explanation better.
[01:03:02] Speaker C: Thanks. I don't know that I'm right.
[01:03:03] Speaker A: It makes more sense than mine.
I was thinking to myself, what is he trying to say? But that makes more sense.
[01:03:10] Speaker C: You idiot.
[01:03:11] Speaker A: You idiots. Why am I your king?
[01:03:13] Speaker C: For dumbasses? Go listen to Doc.
[01:03:17] Speaker A: Let them be your king.
[01:03:18] Speaker D: Yeah.
[01:03:19] Speaker A: All right, let's continue. Here we go.
[01:03:23] Speaker B: The outside world can understand.
Just who we are.
King of King of Proudly rule for all to see King of There's nothing else I rather be King of the yes, I'm the king King of the moon.
King of the fool.
King of the fool.
[01:05:02] Speaker C: That was a good solo. It came out fast, but it was good fast. Rethink one.
[01:05:06] Speaker A: Yeah, I thought it was good. I like the harmonized part in the middle. Again. Solos have not been the problem. Problem here. It fits the song. There was technique when you wanted it. There was feel when you wanted it. I thought they did a great job.
[01:05:16] Speaker D: The Guitar I do like. The guitar is. Yeah, like a classic 80s sounding guitar. The music is good. It's just too slow to add an album. But I guess I have to get a vinyl version.
[01:05:27] Speaker A: Yeah. Then you don't have to listen to this. You're fine. It ends on the song you like best on the record. Verse 3 the outside world can't understand Just who we are and who I am I don't want their life of rules I'll be the king King of the fools Chorus King of the fools I proudly rule for all those to see King of the fools there's nothing else I'd rather be King of the fools yes, I'm the king King of the fools King of the fools King of the fools Then solo and let's see what happens. Let's run it out. Here we go.
[01:06:03] Speaker B: And I can't help believing the world is on my side no, I can't help believing in my heart But I can't stop this feeling that I should run and hide so before I die I'll sit and watch Wonder why oh, I wonder why I hear them laugh and shout at me they shake their heads in this.
Oh King of the fool.
King of the fool.
Sam, as an album closer, I liked
[01:08:12] Speaker C: it better than the other ballad.
[01:08:13] Speaker A: It's okay.
[01:08:14] Speaker C: I think it's one of those songs that I've made this image before. We're sitting on the bed, you got the long corded headphones plugged into your stereo and just like. Oh. You kind of lay back and you just let it play. It's inoffensive. Not bad.
[01:08:25] Speaker A: I don't really hate this. I like this a lot. I don't hate that it's slow at the end. If we swapped it, would I care? No. But I don't think this is bad. I kind of like this. I don't. Didn't feel 636 to me. It was pretty quick for a slow song.
[01:08:36] Speaker C: Yeah, it didn't feel that long to of me either, admittedly.
[01:08:39] Speaker A: Yeah. Let me read last of the lyric comes out of the solo and it goes into the first pre chorus which you already read. Then the king of fools is different. King of the fools I hear them laugh and shout at me King of the fools they shake their heads in disbelief King of the fools oh, I'm the king King of the fools King of the fools who are these people to cast stones? King of the fools Better a fool than just a cologne King of the fools yes, I'm the king King of the fools King of The Fools. I like the last line because he always said that he wasn't the same as all those hair metal bands. So I wonder if that has something to do do with that sentiment. Better fool than just a clone. Yeah, I. I like this. I'm gonna go first. I'm gonna give it six. And music. I'm gonna give it seven. I like this a lot. Actually. It didn't feel like six minutes. It went pretty quick. I don't care about the slow tempo. Personally, if I had my choice, I would probably swap King of the Fools and Killer Be Killed and maybe make Killer we kill the end. I like the sentiment. I like the lyrics. Everything's pretty good, Saf.
[01:09:32] Speaker C: I'm gonna go fives across. Only because I gave sixes to stuff that I liked more. I don't think it's bad. Me personally, I do think. I think it works as an album closer. And I do like it better than the other one, actually. I'll do six on music and production. I'll throw a little bit of a bone because I do like it better than the other one. So, yeah, we'll do that. Six on music, six on production, five on. On the other things. Frank.
[01:09:51] Speaker D: I'm going fives across. I wasn't crazy about it. It wasn't terrible. It just wasn't a me song. And does it count as an album closer because it was a hidden track or bonus track?
[01:10:02] Speaker C: Well, it wasn't really a bonus track. They wanted it to be. They just couldn't fit it on the vinyl.
[01:10:07] Speaker D: Got it. Wow. Again, fives across. It wasn't terrible. It just wasn't for me. I was just wasn't feeling the vibe on it.
[01:10:13] Speaker C: I think my overall thought is this, which is what I said at the end of the White lion when we did this would have made a hell of an ep, in my opinion. There's probably four or five songs that I think probably would have made a pretty solid ep. I could have done without some of them. I really didn't know what to expect going into this. And I think this stuff that's the heavier stuff is my favorite stuff. I think they're pretty good at that. They do have like kind of that dock and vibe, you know. Dawkin had a little bit of that edge and I like that. The dirtiness. I like the production. The rawness of some of the production when it is raw as opposed to some of the more polished things.
[01:10:47] Speaker A: I didn't think I'd like this, so it took 40 years for me to listen to it. Back. It's better than I remember. I really was coming into this saying, I don't like this at all. If you listen to part one right from the get go, I'm like, I don't like this album. I didn't like it then. I'm sure I'm not gonna like it now. But I guess I was wrong. There's three or four songs here do like and all the other ones. Some. There's some filler and stuff. I didn't hate most of it generally. Leader of the Pack, I think for me didn't really need to be on here. I would have taken Leader of the Pack off and just put this last song on. Maybe in a different position. It didn't have to be the end other than that.
[01:11:19] Speaker C: Yeah. Maybe they could have swapped it out so there's a ballad on each side. They're not the ballads that we're selling on the radio. The breakthrough ballads from the radio for the hair metal bands. These were heavier themed, heavier produced and heavier played. Frank, what's your overall take?
[01:11:33] Speaker D: I'm with you. Sad. There's a really great EP in here because there's a couple songs in there that like Leader of the Pack. I'm shocked at that they released that as a single. But overall it's something I'm gonna go back and listen to. Probably because it's Twisted Sister more than any other reason. There are a couple of good gems in here for sure, but overall it's. I don't know, they feel a little bit let down.
[01:11:52] Speaker A: I thought I was gonna be really let down and it went the other way for me, which is. I don't understand.
Maybe I'm thinking about the next record. It's possible, but I really thought it was. Was this one because I remember Leader of the Pack.
[01:12:03] Speaker C: Next is Love is for Suckers.
[01:12:05] Speaker A: Yeah, I don't know if that's the one or not. I thought it was this, but anyway, regardless, I'm glad we got this. Took 40 years for me to appreciate it. I like when my mind gets changed, especially on something I thought I had really strong opinions about. You never know.
[01:12:17] Speaker C: Would you think that overall it would be harder to change your mind on music from this era than anything else?
[01:12:23] Speaker A: I would think so. Because usually when I didn't like it, then I didn't like it. But every once in a while things come around and you think that you have an opinion about what it is because you remember it from back in the day. I didn't like this then, why would I like this now? Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And this shows that that's not always the case. Sometimes you remember things incorrectly. And I don't know about the EP part either, because we've had records that have been good that only had five songs on them, and the rest has been filler stuff. Again, are there any songs as good as the two big songs on the prior record? No, there's not one song that's like that. And unfortunately for them, they were following up such a big record that really, unless they came out with something that equaled those songs, it was never going to sell the same way. So they almost defeated themselves. That's like Bon Jovi coming out with Slippery Room When Wet. If New Jersey wasn't as good as it was, they may not have been the band that stood the test of time the way they did. It's easy to come out after the fact and hope you're going to have something big. And if it doesn't go the same way, this is what happens. So either you're Bon Jovi, who keeps making hits into the 2000s, or your twisted sister. It comes out, you have two big songs, you do this, and then everything after that gets progressively worse and you break up. It's a very fine line where that can happen.
[01:13:33] Speaker C: Yeah, plus, having a video banned on MTV doesn't help either.
[01:13:37] Speaker A: No, it doesn't always hurt, but sometimes. Look at the Motley Crue video. That was banned, too. That didn't stop Motley Crue.
[01:13:42] Speaker C: Yeah, but don't forget, we didn't have a little thing called the Internet where I just googled banned video and there it was.
Yeah, of course, back in the day, you had to find it elsewhere.
[01:13:54] Speaker A: All right, Sav, why don't you do your thing?
[01:13:56] Speaker C: We are part of the Deep Dive Podcast Network and the Boneless Podcast Podcast Network.
[01:14:00] Speaker A: Boneless, you know, like those chicken wings without the bone.
[01:14:03] Speaker C: And like I always say, great bunch of guys took us in right away. If you want individual podcasts about bands, Metallica, Judas Priest, Rush, Tom Petty, you name it, it's probably on there. So check them out. And Mark, where can they find us on the Interwebs.

Wherever you rate your podcast. Next week, I believe we're going to do our annual anniversary episode. We've been holding off a little bit. I think that's when it's gonna happen. I'm not gonna tell you what we're gonna play. Is it going to be Hendrix like we normally do? Who knows? We shall see next week.
[01:14:37] Speaker C: Yeah. Hopefully we get a big crowd. We'll see. We're hoping that something that has not happened in a very long time on this podcast will happen. We're hoping it would happen tonight. But the stars did not align, so hopefully they will align next week and we'll have exactly what when we want.
[01:14:51] Speaker A: Hopefully, we shall see. All right, guys, we'll see you next week.
[01:14:54] Speaker C: Ciao.
